The photokina communities special exhibition area at photokina 2014 (16-21 September) in hall 9 is the central port of call for trade fair visitors who like to exchange news and views with others about their photography hobby. The focal point is a large stage where for six days exhibitors and cooperation partners will be developing trade fair topics for photo fans in an informative and entertaining way. The spectrum ranges from natural history and travel photography via the fascination of HDR to an overview of important photo apps for smartphone photography fans. Below you will find our initial overview of the programme highlights.

The curtain raiser to the programme is the lecture on The colours of the world captured to perfection by Daniel Swoboda in collaboration with the Nikon photographic forum on Tuesday (16.09) at 10:30 a.m. On the following days at the same time photographer Andreas Jorns will also be giving a practical demonstration of how to use the Nikon flash system with a live people photo shoot and explains what is really important for flash light shootings.

The daily slot from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is given over to trend sports and action photography - hosted by Red Bull Illume. For the first time at photokina, Red Bull Illume offers an insight into the world behind the lens of Red Bull photographers. For example, the lecture The new level of action sports photography on Saturday takes a close look at the subject of Action sports photography. Among other things it answers the following questions: How are high quality, professionally demanding and unique images created in the dynamic tension between authenticity and aesthetics? What technologies and developments are there specially in this photographic genre and what opportunities do they afford action sport photographers?

From midday at 12:00 p.m. daily on the stage the theme is Nature in its pure state. That is when members of the German Animal Photographers Society (GDT) will be offering exciting insights into the fascination of nature photography. For example, in his Thursday lecture (18.09.) The Arctic - A timeless expanse Stephan F rnrohr will be depicting infinite wastes far away from civilisation. Then on Saturday, for example, the topic will be natural photography on our doorstep. Thats boring, there are no rare plants to be found there, spectacular landscapes belong elsewhere and real wild animals only live in Africa? Karsten Mosebach debunks all that. In his lecture The good is so close to hand he shows how exciting and photographically challenging this type of photography can be.

Be it artful travel photography, a live shoot with snakes, the creative use of flashguns or how to put a professional beauty shoot together: from 01:00 p.m. daily the photographic community will be laying on an inspiring workshop under the direction of big names of the photographic community such as Pavel Kaplun, Ralph Man, Martin Krolop or Jamari Lior. Photo fans can not just crib professional tricks of the trade but put them into practice straight away with their own camera.

Mobile time is at 02:00 p.m. daily. Numerous lectures, workshops and seminars will shed light on the various facets of mobile photography from all sides. Top speakers offer tips on improving workflows for smartphone photographers, explain which apps you need to know, which ones you must have on your smartphone, while highlighting these small programs limitations. The event series cooperation partner is the Californian specialist for Mobile Imaging, Hans Hartman, Chairman of Suite 48 Analytics.

Images with a large dynamic range hold a special fascination for many photo fans. Markus Bauer gets to the bottom of this Fascination with HDR from Tuesday to Thursday at 04:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 04:30 p.m. Markus Bauer of publishing house Franzis shows how you can easily create good HDR images and how to capture subjects perfectly to end up with the right result.

J rg Schmale, photokina project manager at Koelnmesse, said on the subject: It isnt just anyone who has ever shot more than 30 picture in the their life who will be amazed at the photokina community just what effects can be achieved with simple devices and simple means. Anyone who is wondering how to set up and/or print out good photos on Facebook, Instagram and Co, whether from their camera or smartphone, will find all the answers to their questions in Hall 9.
