Boksburg protests: Police used rubber bullets to disperse crowd

As reported by Fanie Mthupha from the Boksburg Advertiser, police fired rubber bullets to disperse the protesting crowd.

The Ekuhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and local security companies deployed officers to the area.

Motorists were urged by authorities to avoid the area. In addition, residents took to Twitter to warn fellow motorists. Kobeli Mokheseng was the first to inform netizens of the protest action:

There is massive protest action going on at the corner of Atlas and Paul Smit Str. Please avoid at all costs.

Belinda was at her wits' end and said on Twitter that she needed to pass through the protest to get to schools. She asked, Do we keep our kids at home now?

In addition, Johan Willemse, warned of protest action happening at the corners of Ravenswood, Dormehl, Bartlett and Thirteenth Roads in Anderbolt, Boksburg.

As reported by Jacaranda News, police confirmed the arrest of 20 protesters. Captain Kay Makhubela said authorities are monitoring the situation and added:

Community members next to the factories around Boksburg are complaining that the factories are hiring foreign nationals.
