New RT series Welcome to Moore Street gives a glimpse into life on iconic Dublin street

Welcome to Moore Street will begin on RT One and RT Player on Thursday 19 March at 10.15pm. The three-part series gives a glimpse into life on one of Dublin's most iconic streets, sharing the colourful stories of both the local traders who made the street famous, and the immigrants from many different nations who have made Ireland, and Moore Street, their home.

Moore Street has changed hugely over the past number of decades, but at the heart of it all remains a diverse group of people who make this iconic street what it is. From the fifth-generation family butchers to the Nigerian fashion boutique owner, the fruit and veg sellers and those running a Brazilian bike shop, Welcome to Moore Street gives an insight into their hopes, aspirations and challenges as they navigate work, love, loss and an uncertain future.

First established in the 18th century, Moore Street is one of the oldest marketplaces in Dublin city. It has survived and changed in the decades since and today it is one of the last remaining trading streets in the heart of the capital. Famously, Moore Street played a vital role in the 1916 Easter Rising and is widely known for the fresh fruit and vegetable stall holders to whom Dubliners have flocked for generations.

In Episode One, we meet Caroline who has been selling fruit and veg here since she was a teenager, while fifth generation butchers Troy's are struggling to save their family business. We meet Edizemi, who arrived in Ireland as an asylum seeker 20 years ago and who is now a social worker. She also runs her own Nigerian food stall on the street. Sri Lankan chef Naleem opens a restaurant in the corner of Moore Street Mall, while reiki healer Amanda chases her ambitions. The whole street is deeply impacted when tragedy strikes.

Episode Two follows Polish gym owner Pawel as he and his daughter chase their MMA dreams, and street photographer Aarif documents rising tensions in the city centre. Architect Freidrich shares his vision for the redevelopment of Moore Street, while relatives of the 1916 leaders put forward their own plans.

Episode Three offers a glimpse into the world of delivery riders who congregate in a Brazilian bike shop, and plans to restore the National Monument on the street, with its associations to the Easter Rising in 1916, are outlined. Young drag queen Noah performs on Moore Street during Pride festival, while Georgian seamstress Liza celebrates one year in business.

Filmed in observational documentary style, this series profiles a unique, tightly knit and varied community that is rocked by tragedy, faced with uncertainty and navigating an ever-changing city centre.
