CrossBraining Combines #HomePro + Home Schooling

Raise your hand if you'll be adding home school teacher to your resume in the coming months. Parents, we see you out there doing your best to keep lesson plans and education on track while sheltering-in-place. And teachers, we thank you now more than ever for everything.

As we navigate these days of home schooling, GoPro is growing as a teaching tool that elevates mundane lessons to shareable, effective learning by doing experiences.

The CrossBraining application manages standards-based, student-created videos and is intended to increase student engagement, empower students to take control of their own learning and develop not only technical skills but high-demand soft skills like grit, communication and critical thinking. The interactive video approach + integration with GoPro enables students to incorporate technology into their learning, as well as benefit from the durable, yet unobtrusive, nature of GoPro cameras. Once completed, the videos are stored within the app as a portfolio that can be revisited and shared.

GoPro and CrossBraining are most recently working together to provide free educational lessons for parents and teachers to use while homeschooling-lessons can be found here.

As part of GoPro's #HomePro Challenge, the two companies are encouraging educators to share their homeschool lesson plans to social media. From indoor balloon rockets teaching force and motion to applying math facts to build a parachute, if your lesson plan is shared + picked, you'll be awarded the new HERO8 Black and a year's subscription to CrossBraining.

CrossBraining + GoPro Are No Strangers

It's not every day a collaboration comes together and flows like this. So GoPro for a Cause was especially excited to donate cameras to outfit the CrossBraining workshop at the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) Conference in early March. There, participants were able to test out the hands-on learning experience.

During the workshop, teachers first learned how to use GoPro. Then, they were tasked with building a parachute to support an egg as it careened down three stories toward a target. The goal was to keep the egg safe and build a start-to-finish story. They captured footage of their learning and progress using the GoPro and the CrossBraining app stitched the whole process together resulting in a 45-second video.

Based on the overwhelming success of this workshop, we look forward to bringing this learning activity to other conferences and presentations. Supporting efforts to advance STEM programs (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) parallels GoPro's mission to push boundaries and promote immersing oneself in all aspects of life with the added end-goal of sharing those experiences.
