Five Los Angeles Film Festival Directors Spotlighted in Upcoming Event CINE s New Executive Director to Moderate Panel

In an effort bring additional face to face networking and career enhancing opportunities to the community, the Los Angeles Post Production Group is hosting the upcoming event, LAPPG Presents: Industry Mixer & Film Festival Panel, slated for January 23rd at the Parlor in the Melrose District in Los Angeles which will feature a panel of five Los Angeles film festival directors.

Moderating the panel is Jon Gann, founder of the DC Shorts Film Festival, author of Behind the Screens: Programmers Reveal How Film Festivals Really Work, and newly appointed Executive Director of the CINE Golden Eagle Competition. Jon will delve into how film festivals work to support the independent filmmaker and what filmmakers should know about the state of the industry and advice for creating a strong strategy for festival acceptance. He will also check in with each panelist on their vision for the future of film festivals and how each is adapting to virtual, online opportunities and what this means for the independent filmmaker to succeed.

Panelists for the evening include Henry Priest, Co-Creator and Director of Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles, Daniel Sol, Co-Director of HollyShorts Film Festival, Jeannie Roshar, Director of LA Comedy Shorts Festival, Larry Laboe, Executive Director of NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA), Tanya Kersey, Founder and Executive Director of Hollywood Black Film Festival.

The inspiration for this event came after hosting a presentation from Jon Gann last year at one of Los Angeles Post Production Group's monthly meetings. It was clear that there was a strong desire from the community to learn more about the inner workings of film festivals and what filmmakers can do to have a successful festival circuit experience, explained LAPPG Co-Founder Woody Woodhall. We're excited to bring these local directors together to answer questions and give filmmakers a glimpse behind the scenes to help them come up with strong strategies for getting their films seen now and in the future.

This event is part of the new platform the Los Angeles Post Production Group is launching in an effort to bring their members and the community additional networking, education and career enhancement opportunities under the banner LAPPG Presents.

The second LAPPG Presents event on the calendar for 2014 is a Tax Seminar for Entertainment Industry Professionals on Saturday, February 22nd at Crossroads in Santa Monica 10am-12pm.
