SHANNON JACOBS NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNICATIONS, CBS CORPORATION Published on: 04/07/2014 | All 2014 Press Releases
Shannon Jacobs has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Communications, CBS Corporation, it was announced today by Dana McClintock, Executive Vice President of Communications, to whom she continues to report.
In this new, expanded role, Jacobs will manage the New York-based corporate communications team, helping to create and execute communications strategy across all of the Company's businesses. She will continue to lead media relations efforts for all of CBS Television's corporate functions, including ad sales, research, affiliate relations, governmental and legal affairs, program practices and engineering.
Shannon has been a key player for us since the day she walked in the door, said McClintock. She is a talented and strategic communicator whose hard work and many contributions have made her an integral part of our department, as well as a respected advisor to executives throughout the Company. Gil Schwartz and I are extremely pleased to promote her; having worked closely with Shannon for the last eight years, there is no one I'd rather have by my side as we continue to tell the great story of the CBS Corporation.
Jacobs joined CBS in late 2005 as Vice President, CBS Communications Group, a position she assumed as the Company was preparing to become a standalone entity apart from Viacom. Before joining CBS, she served for four years as Director of Corporate Communications at NBC Universal, where she led media relations for a number of divisions including research, standards and practices, legal and regulatory affairs.
Prior to working in the media industry, Jacobs spent four years on Capitol Hill, first as a press aide to U.S. House Democratic Leader Richard A. Gephardt and later as communications director and chief spokesperson for Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR). She also managed local campaigns as director of public affairs at a San Francisco-based political consulting firm. Before that, she headed Alexander Ogilvy's West Coast policy team, advising clients on media relations pertaining to regulatory and legislative issues. Jacobs also served as editor of a technology policy newsletter for reporters and industry leaders.
Jacobs worked for Viacom's MTV News during its Choose or Lose 1996 presidential campaign coverage and coordinated all aspects of a news and grassroots voter registration effort, which included events with all three major presidential candidates, numerous celebrities and newsmakers as well as coverage of the Democratic and Republican debates and conventions.
She also served as an associate at Robinson Lake Sawyer Miller, a Washington, D.C., consulting firm, and as a writer and research analyst at the Bureau of National Affairs in Georgetown.
A Nebraska native, Jacobs received her B.A. in Journalism from the University of Nebraska. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Garrett, and their two daughters.
