Gisteren hebben 1024 kinderen van 7 tot en met 12 jaar hun eerste stap gezet in een mogelijke carri re waarbij kennis van ICT noodzakelijk is. Onder begeleiding van 300 vrijwillige coaches gingen de enthousiaste kinderen aan de slag met de programmeertaal Scratch. Deze MegaDojo - georganiseerd door Ziggo en CoderDojo Nederland - draagt bij aan het streven van Ziggo om nog dit jaar 10.000 kinderen kennis te laten maken met programmeren. Dat is volgens het bedrijf noodzakelijk om ook in de toekomst nog voldoende technische geschoolde specialisten te hebben.
Nadat Andr Kuipers via een virtuele count down en de lancering van een raket de aftrap had gegeven gingen de kinderen aan de slag met Scratch. De programma's die zij moesten maken hadden het heelal als onderwerp. Zo moesten zij een raket lanceren en een astronaut verschillende opdrachten laten doen. Het is belangrijk om de interesse voor techniek bij jongens n meisjes al op jonge leeftijd te stimuleren , stelt Marieke Dekker, VP Corporate Affairs bij Liberty Global. Zij vervolgt: De opzet van deze Dojos leent zich daar heel goed voor. Je ziet dat het de kinderen erg aanspreekt. Zij zijn ruim twee uur gemotiveerd en geconcentreerd bezig. Ik krijg er een kick van als ik de kinderen zo bezig zie en je merkt dat de honderden vrijwillige coaches net zo enthousiast zijn..
Ook Neelie Kroes was aanwezig bij de MegaDojo: Fantastisch dat hier meer dan 1000 kinderen zitten die zelf programma's en spelletjes maken. Kroes is van mening dat elk kind al op de basisschool moet leren programmeren. Haar actieprogramma CodePact moet daarin ondersteunen.
CoderDojo
Tijdens een CoderDojo maken jongeren kennis met techniek en leren zij op een eenvoudige en speelse manier programmeren, websites en apps maken en nog veel meer. De bijeenkomsten zijn gratis toegankelijk. Vrijwilligers met een passie voor techniek begeleiden de jongeren, maar het uitgangspunt is vooral zelf doen'. CoderDojo is oorspronkelijk een Ierse vrijwilligersorganisatie. Inmiddels zijn er wereldwijd, in meer dan 60 landen, meer dan 700 CoderDojo's. Ziggo is ambassadeur van CoderDojo Nederland en organiseert samen met deze organisatie tientallen Dojos in het hele land.
