Blackmagic Design announced today that FREEDOM STUDIO INFINITY, a Tokyo based recording studio, used a number of Blackmagic Design products, including ten Blackmagic Micro Studio Cameras, to stream a recent concert for the rock band, THE INAZUMA SENTAI. The studio is equipped with many Blackmagic products for its streaming, also including ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K switcher, HyperDeck Studio Mini recorder and Smart Videohub 40 40 router.

FREEDOM STUDIO INFINITY, a recording studio founded in 1976, built a new studio that included a large workflow for live streaming last year. The studio allows customers to use high end audio equipment for musical recording while streaming video, giving artists the ability to pursue high quality sound for their streaming.

Ikoma, who is also a sound engineer and sometimes shoots music videos, explained: I did a stream for an artist I produced at FREEDOM STUDIO that included an ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K, URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, Pocket Cinema Camera 6K and Micro Studio Camera 4K, which I owned myself to stream at the studio. The owner of the studio watched this stream and decided to install streaming gear in her studio as she thought video streaming would become a more common tool.

The new A Studio at FREEDOM STUDIO INFINITY includes six Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4Ks, ATEM M/E Production Studio 4K and ATEM 1M/E Advanced Panel, UltraStudio 4K Extreme, Smart Videohub 40 x 40, six HyperDeck Studio Minis, HyperDeck Extreme Control, Video Assist 7 12G HDR, MultiView 4 and Mini Converter SDI Distribution 4K. For the facilities other new studios, they use four additional Micro Studio Camera 4Ks, ATEM 1M/E Production Studio 4K, six HyperDeck Studio Minis and a Video Assist 7 12G HDR, all mounted in a mobile rack, along with a Smart Videohub 20 x 20 router and MultiView 4 in Studio B.

Ikoma said: The merit of streaming at FREEDOM STUDIO is it allows high quality audio streaming using analog recording equipment such as SSL, which is used for professional sound recording. The audio is mixed, then goes to a DAW system for plug ins and multi channel recording, and is then sent to ATEM and embedded with video.

Blackmagic products have intuitive interfaces and are easy to operate for anyone. Thanks to its usability, those sound engineers who didn't know anything about video now all use the Blackmagic gear thoughtfully, said Ikoma.

SDI ports were built into the studio's walls to mount the Micro Studio Camera 4Ks. For fixed cameras, we use those wall mount cameras and/or one on an electric camera slider while using tripod dollies for cameras with operators. All cameras are controlled via ATEM camera control software.

In December 2020, the rock band, THE INAZUMA SENTAI, used the studio for their final streaming live show where they streamed their performance four weeks in a row. The band wanted to show a do it yourself spirit and did the shooting, recording and editing for the first three streaming programs by themselves. They chose to stream from various locations with unique content every time so that their fans could watch all four live streams, and as a finale, they decided to perform at FREEDM STUDIO.

As a sound recording studio, FREEDOM STUDIO INFINITY brings the best audio quality, plus they have high quality cameras. The studio engineers have deep knowledge about their studio and equipment, which gives me security. Also showing live streamed performances from where music is created gives audiences a chance to see what they usually cannot see. Even if it was designed for sound recording, not really for showing live concert, it was something special and rather cool to perform there.

The Smart Videohub 40 40 serves as a hub to send all camera inputs to the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K. Footage is then sent to the facility's computers via UltraStudio 4K Extreme for streaming. Each camera feed is recorded with HyperDeck Studio Minis, controlled by the HyperDeck Extreme Control. During streaming, the MultiView 4 shows studio engineers four selected images on a large display installed in the control room for monitoring, while some images are sent to the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K to handle four split screen streaming.

Looking back at the live stream from December, Kubo concluded: The streaming was perfect for the finale. The audience gave us good feedback about the sound and picture quality. And being a live performance gave them a highly realistic sensation. Performing in a good environment gave us more excitement and joy to play for our fans. We probably have struggled many time doing things ourselves but we keep making an effort to
