EBU s Young Reporters prepare for major Aletics, Bialon and Handball events

The EBUs Young Radio Reporters scheme is expanding over the coming months with three key events for the brightest young broadcast media professionals.

The programme was established by the EBU and the International Biathlon Union (IBU) in 2013, to give rookie radio reporters access to a number of events where they could explore new multimedia approaches to covering the sport.

Two new sports associations are now offering the chance for young talent to go behind the scenes and be part of their upcoming events: The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the European Handball Federation (EHF).

In November, journalists under the age of 25 nominated by Czech Radio, RMC (France) and the BBC (UK) will attend the IAAFs Gala Week in Monaco. They will take part in a special interactive workshop and create content for new media, online and broadcast platforms based around the events in Monte Carlo. These include the IAAF Council Meetings, choosing a host city for the 2019 World Championships and the award of Athlete of the Year.

Later that month, one of the original German participants from the inaugural IBU scheme will attend a EHF workshop ahead of the Womens Euro 2014 Handball tournament being held in Hungary and Croatia in December. She will focus on digital reporting, multimedia storytelling and social media; with her work featured on the events official website, as well as being shared on the EURORADIO Sports Exchange.

Ahead of both events, a number of Young Radio Reporters nominated by ORF (Austria), SR (Sweden), ERR (Estonia) and Polskie Radio (Poland) will also come to the EBUs Headquarters in Geneva to join with the IBU for a EUROVISION Academy Masterclass on engaging with young audiences, personalising content and combining social media and video.

EURORADIO Project Coordinator Christophe Pasquier said expansion of the programme is in line with the EBUs commitment to providing a wider focus on young audiences, as well as its mission to be a centre for sharing knowledge and learning:

It is fascinating to support and guide emerging talent coming from our membership through attractive events organised by international sport federations that believe in their creativity."
