It s All Getting Too Much!

Rapid TV in Australia has been finding new and creative ways of delivering what they call adventure television.

Rapid TVs Pete Morris said Its all thanks to breakfast TV weatherman Grant Denyer who loves to push the boundaries, and loves to have a production team around him who will do the same.

Our latest challenge was to embed a camera and link into a Red Bull stunt plane to capture Grant live as he was being tossed around the sky by stunt pilot Matt Hall at between negative 4 and negative 8G.

This was a two camera switch, a Sony PDW800 driven by DOP Trent Miller on the ground and an on-board mini cam latched to the ever reliable Link Research L1500 digital link - hard mounted under the front seat instrument panel with a small 3dBi whip fitted to the belly of the aircraft.

Communications were complex too, with solid studio IFB and crew to plane comms required to make this work to cue.

The link hung on throughout the whole ordeal - even as our little camera gave up and our adventure addicted weatherman passed out at negative 8G the link was still solid and still transmitting cockpit audio as we cut to the exterior shot - all as it was being pushed through our Vislink 1.2 metre uplink.

Our L1500 link system has been strapped to parachutists, hang gliders, numerous planes, helicopters, jet skis, canoes, motorbikes as well as hundreds of V Lock cameras and used as a static link on the end of vision mixers as the main link for multi-camera hostings and small OBs.

It has become a key part of our kit and when coupled with the right antennas will deliver every time.

Luminas Peter Warren, our Australian VAR said, Rapid TV and the seven network have done some of the best live television I have seen for some time, they really pushed the L1500 with LMS-T to the limits. This is why we have always believed the Vislink L1500 is the best system on the market.
