Ningbo to ban vehicles in Old Bund area starting from Nov 6

The project of carrying out full-scale pedestrian street management at the Ningbo Old Bund has been approved by the government, according to staff of the Jiangbei Urban Administration Bureau, and a full-scale driving restriction will be carried out in the Ningbo Old Bound area starting from November 26.

After the restriction is carried out, Waima Road, Zhongma Road, Yanshan Road, Yangshanxiang Road, and Erheng Road will ban all non-local vehicles for 24 hours, and only local vehicles with cards can enter these roads and park in the underground parking lots of the NO.5 Mansion and Yongjiang Bridge.

According to the Jiangbei Urban Administration Bureau, the main reason for the restriction is to avoid severe damage on the roads caused by vehicles and jammed roads caused by illegal parking. The Jiangbei Urban Administration Bureau also launched an upgrade project at the Old Bund, which consists of municipal construction and greening construction that is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

The Old Bund was developed into an external trading port in 1844 and it began as the most prosperous port since the Tang and Song Dynasties. It is 20 years older than the Shanghai Bund and is one of several existing century-old bunds in China. The Ningbo Old Bund, by means of its well-preserved historic architecture and blocks and infused with new city culture, perfectly combines its long history with the ever-changing modern innovations. Every cultural relic is a witness or a carrier of the history of different eras. These days, the Old Bund, with a taste of modern fashion in its bones, is now a fashionable shopping center catering to tourists.
