Mirantis and VMware Announce Partnership to Simplify Cloud Deployments on Mirantis OpenStack Distribution with VMware Technologies

Companies Work to Enable Customers to Use Mirantis OpenStack Distribution with VMware Enterprise-Grade Virtualization Solutions for Compute, Networking and Storage

Palo Alto and HONG KONG / Open Stack Summit (Nov. 5, 2013) Mirantis and VMware today announced a partnership to develop and deliver solutions that help customers accelerate large-scale cloud deployments based on the Mirantis OpenStack distribution and VMware technologies. With this agreement, Fuel, the open source tool for OpenStack deployment and management pioneered by Mirantis, will add support for automating the deployment of the Mirantis OpenStack distribution in conjunction with VMware vCenter Server and VMware NSX technologies.

VMware has demonstrated its commitment to the open source community by making significant code contributions and enabling its technology to work well with OpenStack, said Boris Renski, co-founder and executive vice president, Mirantis. We see a lot of interest in both VMware vSphere and VMware NSX network virtualization from Mirantis OpenStack customers, and this partnership will help us provide the best possible experience for them. Using Fuel, Mirantis and VMware will enable the automated configuration of:

The OpenStack Compute service (Nova) with the VMware vCenter Server driver;

The OpenStack Networking service (Neutron) with the VMware NSX driver (formerly the Nicira NVP driver);

The OpenStack Block Storage service (Cinder) with the VMware VMDK datastore driver.

Compatibility with OpenStack Havana and future releases.

Additionally, Mirantis and VMware will coordinate around reference architectures and commercial support, and Mirantis will provide enterprise-class support for OpenStack on top of VMware products.
