Confront aux difficult s de devenir assistant, il simpose finalement comme chef op rateur dans la publicit et le clip, o il est devenu tr s tendance - les Anglais se larrachent - en France comme l tranger. Mais son v ritable objectif est la fiction. En 2019, il signe la photographie de Abou Leila , le long-m trage dAmin Sidi-Boum di ne, s lectionn La semaine de la Critique Cannes, tourn en ALEXA Mini. Il est r cemment intervenu sur plusieurs pisodes de la saison 2 de Top Boy , une s rie culte au Royaume-Uni, relanc e par Netflix. Un projet tourn en ALEXA Mini LF et optiques ARRI DNA. Aujourdhui, il fourmille de projets fiction linternational, tout en poursuivant une solide carri re dans la publicit . La publicit est un milieu tr s flexible, toujours la recherche de nouveaux talents , explique Kanam Onoyama. Cest le seul domaine qui ma accept et donn ma chance. Cest beaucoup plus difficile avec le cin ma fran ais. Cest aussi pour cela que jai cr lassociation Div + qui cherche ouvrir le milieu plus de diversit , faire d couvrir de nouveaux talents venus des minorit s, avec notamment un syst me de mentoring.

Dans la publicit , il encha ne les gros projets - Pepsi, Uber, Dior, Mercedes-Benz - et, r cemment, Nike New Girl , r alis e par Caroline Koning (Bwgtbld). Nike voulait faire un film f ministe pour le march asiatique , explique le directeur de la photographie. Un cr atif espagnol qui travaille au Japon aimait bien mon travail, il a pens moi. Cest une publicit que je voulais traiter comme une fiction. Jai utilis lALEXA Mini LF avec des Zeiss Supreme Prime. Je voulais une image moderne, piqu e, avec un beau contraste et de beaux d tails. Jaime beaucoup travailler avec lALEXA, notamment parce quelle est tr s fiable en termes de couleur. Quelle que soit mon intention visuelle, jobtiens exactement ce que je veux. Depuis 2/3 ans, jai d velopp des Luts que je modifie chaque film. Comme je travaille sur des projets tr s vari s, dispers s dans beaucoup de pays, ces Luts me permettent de donner mon intention aux r alisateurs et aux quipes de postproduction et de ne pas avoir de surprise larriv e. Limage est d j color e, contrast e, satur e, comme je le souhaite.

En 2017, il prend un agent en Grande-Bretagne, o il encha ne depuis les projets avec les meilleurs r alisateurs, mais aussi les clips de haute tenue: Stormzy Vossi Bop , Dua Lipa Break my Heart , Justin Bieber Yummy . Je fais beaucoup de publicit , mais le clip est plus libre visuellement, notamment en Angleterre , indique Kanam Onoyama. Sur le clip Vossi Bop de Stormzy (Caviar), nous avons pris beaucoup de risques avec le r alisateur Henry Scholfield. Jai travaill avec une ALEXA Mini et tout tourn au grand-angle avec un 14mm Cooke S4/i. Ce clip a chang ma vie. Il a t tr s remarqu , ma apport beaucoup de propositions et a un peu lanc cette tendance dune cam ra tr s grand angle, avec des personnages tr s proches au premier plan, avec des transitions.

Aujourdhui, je travaille beaucoup en ALEXA Mini LF , note le chef op rateur. cause notamment de la taille du capteur. Cest difficile expliquer, mais jai limpression que le personnage est plus pr sent, plus r el. Limage existe, un peu comme quand je fais des photos avec un moyen format de type Hasselblad. Jaime aussi beaucoup le viseur de la Mini LF. Avec lui, je peux v rifier mes images tout moment, sans avoir besoin dinstaller un moniteur externe. Jaime conserver la cam ra la plus l g re possible, de fa on rester mobile, intuitif.
