TMRW Sports Selects Populous To Design Professional Flag Football Stadium

TMRW Sports has selected Populous as architect for a purpose-built stadium for its professional flag football league, being developed in partnership with the NFL. The stadium will be a modular design built specifically for the sport. A host city has not yet been selected.

Transwestern's Sports and Entertainment Group is serving as TMRW Sports' real estate advisor, overseeing the host city selection process. Site visits are underway in prospective cities.

The stadium's planned features include a broadcast-oriented design with optimized camera sightlines, premium hospitality, and naming rights opportunities.

Professional flag football gives us a rare opportunity to help shape the experience of a sport from the ground up. We get to help define not only where the sport is played, but how people will experience it for years to come, said Meg McWilliam, Principal, Populous. Rather than adapting an existing venue, we're designing an experience that is purpose-built around the speed, energy and intimacy of the game. Every decision, from how fans connect with the action and how the broadcast is integrated, to hospitality, flexibility and the way the venue comes alive beyond game day, is being made to create an atmosphere that feels unmistakably unique to professional flag football.

This stadium will become a cultural centerpiece for both the sport and its host city, bringing global recognition to the community, increase tourism and provide family-friendly entertainment throughout the summer. It also presents a blank canvas for commercial partners to create innovative brand experiences through premium hospitality, integrated activations and naming rights.

TMRW Sports and the NFL are targeting a league launch before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The league has investment from all 32 NFL club owners, along with institutional investors and current and former NFL players.

TMRW Sports has also formed a partnership with the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), the IOC-recognized governing body for flag football, including support for the 2026 IFAF World Championship in D sseldorf, Germany.

More than 20 million people play flag football worldwide. In the U.S., approximately 4.1 million youth play the sport, an increase of more than 50% since 2020. Flag football is offered at the high school level in 40 states, with the number of young women playing on high school teams increasing nearly 60% from 2024 to 2025. More than 250 colleges and universities offer women's flag football, and the NCAA has approved flag football as an emerging sport for women, with a recommendation to add a national collegiate championship as early as spring 2028.
