Broadcast Management Group, LiveU Power Vertical REMI Production for Amazon Prime's Obsessed Fest on TikTok

Broadcast Management Group produced Amazon Prime's inaugural Obsessed Fest as an eight-hour, social-first live broadcast designed exclusively for TikTok, using a hybrid REMI workflow built around LiveU contribution and cloud-ingest technology.

Rather than adapting a conventional widescreen production for mobile viewing, BMG built the entire show in a native 9:16 format. The production originated from Nya Studios in Hollywood, with switching, replay, graphics, media management, and channel playout handled from BMG's Network Operations Center in Washington, DC.

BMG managed 12 live camera feeds and 16 total records across the festival site. The camera complement included two handhelds, a Steadicam, four robotic cameras covering the main stage, three crewed cameras, and two compact robotic cameras positioned inside a smaller performance space.

A limited production team remained onsite in Los Angeles, while the majority of the technical operation was centralized in Washington. LiveU field units transported the feeds from the venue, allowing BMG to support both single-camera and multicamera configurations through the same contribution infrastructure.

Three roaming camera units used LiveU IQ, the company's bandwidth-management technology, to manage connectivity across available cellular links. The workflow was designed to address congestion created by the event crowd and the surrounding Hollywood studio environment by continuously evaluating network conditions and selecting available connections for each SIM.

A show built for TikTok doesn't get a smaller production plan; it gets a smarter one, said Sean Wyburn, Chief Technology Officer, Broadcast Management Group. We ran single-cam and multi-cam setups off the same LU800 units, including four PTZ cameras through one unit with IP Pipe as our only connection to the outside world.

On the back end, LiveU Ingest recorded 16 clean and dirty feeds in the cloud throughout the day. A 20-person editorial team was able to access footage while it was still being captured, supporting the rapid creation and publication of clips formatted for TikTok.

The cloud-based ingest workflow allowed BMG to add recording capacity for the event without deploying additional onsite capture hardware. Editors working from multiple locations could access, trim, and publish content while operations remained centrally managed from the Washington facility.

LiveU Ingest was a technology we hadn't used prior to this project, said Todd Mason, CEO, Broadcast Management Group. For a fast-moving show of this magnitude, Ingest turned out to be the right cloud solution.

According to BMG and LiveU, the stream reached a peak of nearly 850,000 concurrent viewers. Programming included red-carpet interviews, live musical performances, studio segments, and a surprise performance by Jennifer Lopez.

The production reflects a growing category of live events developed specifically for social platforms rather than repackaged from traditional television coverage. Although the distribution format and audience behavior differ from linear broadcast, BMG maintained a familiar production structure that included multicamera coverage, replay, graphics, remote switching, and real-time editorial workflows.
