Matew Moore to be directors attachment on Robert Connollys Paper Planes

The Australian Directors Guild (ADG) and Screen Australia today announced director Matthew Moore as the third recipient of the Director's Attachment Scheme, an industry incentive program funded by Screen Australia and managed by the ADG for emerging feature film directors to develop their craft. Matthew will be attached to Robert Connolly on his upcoming feature film, Paper Planes, which begins production in Western Australia and Japan in October.

Matthew Moore said, Im thrilled to be selected for the Director's Attachment Scheme. I have been watching the scheme unfold this year with great interest and when Robert Connollys Paper Planes was announced I knew this was the one to apply for. Ive been an admirer of Roberts work as a writer/director/producer for many years and am very excited about observing and engaging in the filmmaking process with him.

Matthew has been a professional actor for over a decade. He graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 1998, where he received the prestigious Leslie Anderson Award.

In 2011, Matthew made his debut as writer, director and producer with the short film Julian. The film was accepted into the Generation Kplus section of the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, winning the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film. Julian went on to screen in many film festivals around the world and has won multiple awards, including the Special Jury Award and the Audience Choice Award at the Flickerfest 21st International Short Film Festival and the AACTA Award for Best Short Fiction Film 2012.

Matthew's second short, The Amber Amulet, adapted with Genevieve Hegney from the novella by Craig Silvey, also won the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film in the Generation Kplus section at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival. The Amber Amulet went on to screen at TIFF Kids, the Mo & Friese Kinder Kurz Film Festival Hamburg, Oberhausen Short Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Sydney Writers' Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

This year Matthew participated in The Accelerator program, presented by Screen Australia and the Melbourne International Film Festival, designed to assist up-and-coming filmmakers to transition from short to feature films.

The Directors Attachment Scheme opportunity is provided to three emerging directors per year. The other 2013 attachments are Grant Sputore, who is attached to Kriv Stenders on Kill Me Three Times, which is currently shooting in Western Australia, and Stephen McCallum, who is attached to Tony Ayres on Cut Snake, currently in pre-production in Victoria.

The ADG will again partner with Screen Australia in 2014 for three more feature film director's attachments, and is in the planning stages for an attachment scheme for television drama.
