Television Station Manager

Free-to-air community television station is looking for a passionate, committed individual to lead the organisation in the next phase of its development towards the achievement of its long term goals. The candidate should have a keen understanding of the role of community media as a tool for social change and be comfortable working in an NGO environment.

A minimum of 10 years industry related experience at senior management level;

An appropriate qualification, preferably at post-graduate level;

A proven track record in fundraising and the ability to manage donor relationships;

Experience in human resources management;

Competence in financial management in an NGO environment.

Competencies and characteristics:

A passion for alternative, progressive or community media;

A good understanding of training in a television environment;

Experience in television production and/or programming;

Experience in community activism, outreach and mobilisation;

Familiarity with the broadcasting policy and regulatory environment.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Leadership: Leading the team, staff development and performance management;

Strategy & implementation: Strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation;

Financial management: Financial planning, budgeting, reporting and internal controls;

Resource mobilization: Unlocking commercial and non-commercial revenue streams;

Marketing and communication: Including internal and external communication;

Networking and building strategic partnerships;

Reporting to the board members and partners.

A contract of one year will be offered including a four-month probationary period. Remuneration will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. The successful applicant should be available to start work on 1 September 2014.

Candidates who are from Cape Town will be given preference but applications from people residing in other parts of the country will also be considered - however relocation costs will not be covered.
