New local TV show looks for hidden talent in small dorpies

SABC2's new reality TV show Showville makes dreams a reality by bringing the glamour and glitz of television to the small, remote and often overlooked dorpies across South Africa.

The series that starts on Saturday 6 February at 19:30 offers ordinary South Africans their 15 minutes of fame as they showcase their talents in front of the camera.

Hosted by local celebrities Rob Van Vuuren and Bontle Modiselle, the duo set out to visit a different town each week selecting four finalists whose performances are put to a town vote to decide who walks away with a R 10 000 cash prize and the glory of newfound fame.

The series centres on the often overlooked but unforgettable behind-the-scenes moments of small town talent shows where wanna-be stars reach outside of their comfort zones - sometimes with side-splitting results - to put their talent to the test in nail biting auditions that never fail to entertain.

How it works:

On Day One: Rob and Bontle host open auditions. Performers of all types are welcome to strut their stuff and share their stories. At the end of the day, our hosts select the four acts they feel will put on the best show for the town. These are The Finalists.

Day Two: Coaches begin their mentorship of each finalist in preparation for the big show finale in between juggling their real jobs, their families and their nerves.

Day Three: The final competition, presented at a well-known town venue in front of a live, local audience. Now its all up to the performers fellow citizenry - including friends, family, co-workers and neighbours - to choose the winning performer. The winner receives R10 000 and a glittering trophy signifying that they are the star of their town.

Co-produced by leading Cape Town-based TV production companies, Okuhle Media and Cooked in Africa Films, in conjunction with Sony Pictures UK, the series hosts and production crew travelled to 26 towns across the Western Cape, Free State and Kwa-Zulu Natal in search of hidden talent and inspiring stories.
