Felix wins anr ree awards

Felix, the South African youth and family film, written by Shirley Johnston and directed by Roberta Durrant, wins three further awards in one week: TheYouth Jury prize for Best Film at the Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth in Vancouver, Canada; Best Film award at Kikife International Children's Film Festival in Schw bisch Gm nd, Germany and the Adult Jury Prize - Die Goldene Klappe Award for best Picture at the Augsburg Childrens Film Festival in Germany.

This brings the number of awards to 13 awards in total, both locally and internationally, since being on the festival circuit from October last year.

Felix is currently in competition at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for Kids, which is taking place from 8 April to 21 April 2014 in Toronto.

Felix has been awarded The Youth Jury prize for Best Film at the Reel 2 Real International Film Festival for Youth in Vancouver, Canada. The Youth Jury (aged 9-12) announced the winner of the Award at the Awards Presentation, which was held on 10 April, where they had to explain the reasons for their decision: I liked Felix because it showed happy people working together to achieve a good end goal. With great music and numerous comedy touches, Felix was my favorite film. They also reacted positively to the way that Felix portrayed South Africa: I liked Felix because it was really engaging, it made you share his hopes along the way. I also liked getting a window into current South African culture and the way Felix never gave up.

Felix is also the winning film in the international competition of the 21st Kikife Festival, 2014. The Kikife International Children's Film Festival took place from 27 - 30 March 2014, in Schw bisch Gm nd, Germany. The awards ceremony will be held in 2015.

Roberta and Hlayani Mabasa, who plays' Felix' in the movie, recently attended the Augsburg Childrens Film Festival in Germany, where Felix was awarded yet another prize: Die Goldene Klappe Award for best Picture as chosen by the Adult Jury. They were able to personally receive this award and were also the guests of honor at the opening of the Augsburg Childrens Film Festival, where Felix was screened as the opening film.

Felix tells the story of 14-year-old Felix Xaba (Hlayani Junior Mabasa) who dreams of becoming a saxophonist like his late father, but his mother Lindiwe (Linda Sokhulu) thinks jazz is the devil's music.

When Felix leaves his township friends to take up a scholarship for grade eight at an elitist private school, he defies his mother and turns to two aging members of his father's old band (Royston Stoffels and Thapelo Mofokeng) to help him prepare for the school jazz concert.

Felix is produced by Penguin films for Sabido Productions.
