Moonlink Satellite Taps Adtec Digital for World Series Signal Transmiion

Throughout the World Series, Moonlink Satellite populated the ballparks of the best baseball teams in America to help get the signals out. And once again, Adtec Digital was on board. Moonlink had trucks in both Detroit and Boston covering the American League Championship Series for clients ESPN, Comcast SportsNet New England, and Fox. For Moonlink, Adtec Digital has been a big part of providing reliability.

The Tigers made it all the way to the World Series in 2012 and we were right there with them, and we're back again this year because of our equipment and our people, said Jeff Moon, Moonlink President. Our Adtec encoders have been very dependable and have great interoperability with other manufacturer's receivers, which are very important.

In addition, Adtec has helped Moonlink keep pace with changing technology.

We bought our first set of EN-81s in 2011. At the time, MPEG 4 had only been adopted by a few broadcasters. We recognized that the quality of the codec, coupled with higher modulation schemes, was creating efficiencies that would benefit broadcasters a great deal, said Dan Dinneweth, Moonlink Satellite Engineer. Since then, those EN-81s are still in place, we have added more, and clients are coming to us asking for MPEG 4 at an increasing rate.

The EN-81 is a multi-codec low delay MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 high definition encoder from Adtec. An on-board DVBS/S2 modulator is available in IF or L-band with modulation modes ranging from QPSK up to 32APSK based on software licenses.

Digital technology does not stand still. Television today is changing faster than ever. With all the buzz in the industry about 1080p and 4K, we will continue to need to keep up, and Adtec is definitely on our short list, said Dinneweth.

And despite the Tigers loss to Boston, Detroit-based Moonlink's effort continues.

We do have a soft spot for the home team of course, but we are still working at the World Series in Boston, Moon said, prior to the Red Sox' victory on Wednesday.
