Community screening of African social awareness series --

The MTV Staying Alive Foundation, MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) host a screening of Shuga, a social empowerment series set in Kenya, at the Eerste River Multi-Purpose Centre on Monday 9 December from 17h00.
The Eerste River community, situated outside of Cape Town, is in need of intervention and transformation, as HIV and other social problems are prevalent issues in the area.
Reverend Thabo Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town; Georgia Arnold, executive director of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation; Prof Brian O Connell, rector and vice chancellor at UWC; James Maloney, South African representative for the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR); Dr James Lees from UWC; and various national and international stakeholders will attend the screening, furthering their commitment to change the course of the HIV epidemic in South Africa.
Also scheduled to attend is Nigerian actor and musician Ikubese Emmanuel Ifeanyichukwu, who features in the series.
MTV Base VJ Sizwe Dhlomo will MC the event where guests will be treated to a spit braai followed by a screening of the first three episodes of Season Three.
Shuga aims to raise awareness among the youth about HIV prevention and other public health issues by presenting compelling stories with a focus on sexual health.
Directed by Nigerian Biyi Bandele, the new season of Shuga has premiered to 52 territories in sub-Saharan African on MTV Base.
