Ireland's national broadcaster, RT has completed a project installing Telestream's Lightspeed server system running Vantage Transcode Pro for integration within the broadcaster's new FAST file-based media management system.
FAST is RT 's file-based content media management system, based around Harmonic Mediagrid and Spectrum media servers with TMD's MediaFlex content management system. Media is ingested from tape or file in SD or HD format, in preparation for transmission. At RT , Telestream's Vantage transcoding software combines with its Lightspeed acceleration system to generate multiple output profiles for ingest of broadcast media, particularly Smooth Streaming and HLS formats for proxy-viewing throughout the organisation. The Telestream system will enable ingested media to become available to QC viewing stations, editorial staff, and others soon after the media is ingested. This facilitates both scheduled, and last-minute ingest tasks.
Lightspeed's performance has enabled us to provide a better service to our internal users, and to increase the number of simultaneous transcode operations we can perform, whilst the Vantage transcoding video quality enables us to deliver excellent picture quality for a given bandwidth commented Myles Donoghue, project manager at RT .
The project marks a number of firsts for Telestream: it is the first implementation of Lightspeed being integrated with TMD's MediaFlex system, and it is also the first Lightspeed system to be installed in Ireland.
Eurotek worked closely with RT and TMD throughout the FAST project. The company helped RT test and integrate Lightspeed, providing on-site technical expertise and working closely with TMD's engineering team.
RT is a national broadcaster, and as such commands a high level of respect in the international broadcast community. Their adoption of Telestream Vantage and Lightspeed to facilitate new file-based workflows sends a strong message to the broadcast community of the quality and cost-effectiveness of the Telestream product, stated Kevin Moore, managing director of Eurotek. Having used other Telestream products for many years, especially FlipFactory, RT 's adoption of Vantage/Lightspeed indicates a strong satisfaction with the company and its products, as well as Eurotek's service and support of their systems.
