GREG BRAKEFIELD OF COMPORIUM WINS 2013 SCTE INTERNATIONAL CABLE-TEC GAMES TITLE; NICK WILLIAMS OF COMCAST RECEIVES SPIRIT AWARD

OCT. 24, 2013 (Atlanta, GA) Representing SCTE Region 10 and the SCTE Piedmont Chapter, Greg Brakefield of Comporium in Rock Hill, S.C., performed the best among the field of 28 competitors and captured the 23rd Annual SCTE International Cable-Tec Games title last evening in Atlanta.

The International Games sponsored by Corning, Dycom Industries, and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) comprised competitors from the United States and Canada who had qualified to compete after winning their local competitions.

SCTE conducts the popular International Games where technical professionals demonstrate precise workmanship, refined skills, and proper technique each year as part of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo , SCTE's flagship event. Expo 2013 began Monday and concludes this evening at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Brakefield won the title two years ago at Expo 2011, also in Atlanta. A year ago, he finished second at Expo 2012 in Orlando. In the 2013 Games here last evening, Bob Colwell of Comcast in Portsmouth, N.H., took second. He was representing the SCTE New England Chapter and SCTE Region 12. Finishing third was T.J. Diplacido of Charter in Fort Worth, Texas. Diplacido was representing the SCTE North Central Texas Chapter of SCTE Region 4.

Nick Williams of Comcast Cable Communications gained the distinction last evening of being named the recipient of the third annual Spirit of the Games Award, which is sponsored and awarded by CommScope. Presented in memory of Mr. David Jones, this award recognizes an individual who best exhibits sportsmanship in the SCTE Cable-Tec Games and embraces the learning environment of the Games. Williams is a headend technician with Comcast in Blue Springs, Mo., and competed at Expo 2013 here last evening representing SCTE Region 5 and the SCTE Heart of America Chapter. Williams also had competed at Expo 2013 here Monday in the SCTE IP Challenge.

Meter Reading: Greg Brakefield

Cable Jeopardy: Bobby Singer, Comcast, Sebastian, Fla., SCTE South Florida Chapter (Region 9)

The hosts of the evening's seven contests were: AFL, CommScope, Corning, EXFO, Greenlee Communications, JDSU, Jones/NCTI, Megger, PPC (A Belden Brand), Radiodetection, Times Fiber Amphenol, and Trilithic.
