NABEF to Honor Lowes with Corporate Leadership Award The award recognizes the company's long-standing contributions to disaster relief, public education and community improvement WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) will present the Corporate Leadership Award to Lowes Companies, Inc. during the 15th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, held Monday, June 3, at the Washington Convention Center. The award recognizes non-broadcast businesses that exemplify an extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility.

Lowes disaster relief efforts, community improvement initiatives and education grant and scholarship programs have assisted countless Americans, said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. The NAB Education Foundation is pleased to award the Corporate Leadership Award to Lowes for consistently demonstrating its commitment to community service.

Since its founding in 1946, Lowe's has had a long and proud history of community service. Through grant programs, national partnerships and the Lowe's Heroes employee volunteer program, Lowe's and the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation together contribute more than $30 million annually to public education and community improvement projects in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Lowe's partners with Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together to provide safe and affordable homes for thousands of low-income families while revitalizing communities from coast to coast. In times of disaster, Lowe's teams with the American Red Cross and the First Response Team of America to assist local residents. Lowe's and its customers have contributed more than $24 million to the Red Cross since 1999. In 2012, Lowe's largest disaster response came in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Lowe's contributed more than $2 million to relief efforts and Lowe's Heroes distributed cleaning supplies and food to storm-battered communities, including free Thanksgiving dinners to feed more than 136,000 residents.

Lowe's focus on improving educational opportunities is best exemplified by its signature education grant program, Lowe's Toolbox for Education. Since 2006, Lowe's Toolbox for Education has contributed more than $34 million, funding improvements at 7,500 schools and benefiting more than 4 million schoolchildren. Lowe's commitment to the nation's next generation of leaders also includes a $10 million investment in trade and technical education through its partnership with SkillsUSA. In addition, Lowe's scholarship programs and partnerships with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Hispanic Scholarship Fund and American Indian College Fund have helped thousands of students achieve their goal of earning their college diploma.
