Sony Highlights IP Collaboration with Evertz at NAB 05; Demonstrates New Technologies to Drive Transition to 4K IP-based Broadcast and Production

At NAB 2015, Sony will highlight IP interoperability as part of its continuing collaboration to integrate the Evertz Software Defined Video Network (SDVN) solution with Sonys IP Live Production System with Networked Media Interface.

The industry leading IP innovators will demonstrate the seamless integration of these technologies in each others NAB booths, Evertz #N1502 and Sony #C11001. These demonstrations will include Sonys IP Live Production System, using Sony Networked Media Interface, and the Evertz SDVN system.

Sony is also unveiling new IP technologies at NAB, including the worlds first 4K-ready, IP-based live production switcher system.

As the broadcast and production industries transition to new workflows, IP-based technologies are playing an increasingly large role, not only for live production but also distribution and play-out, said Alec Shapiro, president of Sonys Professional Solutions Americas group. Our work with Evertz and our new IP technology developments will ensure that the needs of media and entertainment industry customers for end-to-end IP-based networked solutions are fulfilled.

Sonys Networked Media Interface packetizes and transmits HD and 4K video, audio, and metadata in real time over standard network infrastructures. Sony IP technologies use a low latency video codec (LLVC) to support the compression required for 4K 60p transmission over 10 Gbps Ethernet.

Evertz MAGNUM Unified Control System addresses the ever-growing challenges broadcasters face as facilities become larger, more complex and distributed. MAGNUM is designed to unify the control and operation of the routing core, master control, production switching, advanced transport and multi-viewer in both SDI and IP domains.

Evertz SDVN solution leverages our MAGNUM unified orchestration and control system, together with high capacity IP switching fabrics (Evertz EXE-VSR and IPX) and IP gateways to provide an IP-based infrastructure scalable from SD/HD to Ultra HD over a 10GbE packet core, said Eric Fankhauser, Vice President, Product Development at Evertz. The transition from legacy SDI to IP-based infrastructures has tremendous benefit and Evertz has deployed these solutions for our customers. Developing interoperability with Sonys Networked Media Interface will give customers greater IP workflow options.
