Samsung is making a play for the cinema market with a 34ft (more than 10m) 4K LED display. Furthermore, the Korean technology giant is already leveraging technology from its latest acquisition, Harman, announcing that the display will be coupled with an audio system from Harman Professional Solutions' Cinema Group and Samsung's Audio Lab.

The Cinema Screen dispaly is being shown from March 27 to 30 at the Cinemark Century Orleans 18 and XD Theatre at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, where it was officially debuted in a showing to coincide with CinemaCon 2017.

Samsung has designed its Cinema Screen to fit modern theatre dimension. It offers 4,096 x 2,160 resolution that it claims exceeds DCI specifications. In the release it also noted that the screen was currently undergoing the DCI certification process and recently completed compliance test at Keio University in Tokyo.

In a press release, Sang Kim, vice president of Samsung Electronics America, said: As the popularity of advanced at-home entertainment systems and streaming platforms increases, theatres must reposition themselves as a destination for an incomparable viewing experience that consumers simply cannot encounter anywhere else.

Our new Cinema Screen technology brings a more powerful and high-quality picture to the big screen, creating an environment where viewers feel as if they are part of every scene.

Samsung didn't offer much detail on the audio side and said further information would be forthcoming .

However the statement had a comment from Brian Divine, vice president of Tour and Cinema Solutions Group. Harman is excited to continue its collaboration with the Samsung Cinema Screen team and the Samsung Audio Lab, he said. With our expertise in cinema sound systems, we look forward to helping to extend Samsung's leadership in Visual Display solutions into the theatre.

The final word went to Seog-gi Kim, senior vice president of visual display business at Samsung: The launch of our cinema LED display is merely the latest step toward our vision for a complete end-to-end theatre experience powered by digital signage.
