The Collegiate Sports Video Association inducted Chad Bunn, Director of Brigham Young University Athletic Video Department, into the Sports Film and Video Hall of Fame in recognition for his dedication and accomplishments in the sports video profession. Through the innovation, desire, and commitment, Bunn has helped pave the way for the future of the sports video profession. Bunn is only the third NCAA inductee into the Sports Film and Video Hall of Fame.
BYU's Chad Bunn (right) was honored by the College Sports Video Association.
In addition to his Hall of Fame honors, Bunn was selected by a majority vote of his peers in the NCAA to receive the Basketball Coordinator of the Year honor. Bunn recently completed his 22nd year as a staff member of The Brigham Young University Athletic Department and thirty second year at BYU.
In the 10 years prior to being full time staff, Bunn served as a Student Manager and Graduate Assistant for the Football Team. In 1984, BYU won a Football National Championship under Hall of Fame Coach LaVell Edwards with Bunn as one of their Managers. Bunn also served a church mission in Miami Florida for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, during that time period.
In 1991, Bunn was hired as the first full time Video Coordinator for the BYU Football and Basketball programs. About that same time, Bunn attended a Panasonic user's seminar in Las Vegas where he met peers from other Division I athletic programs. Discussions were held at that time concerning the formation and organization of a National Association for Video Coordinators. This organization would help to promote the role of the Video Coordinator and provide a place for dialogue and development within this new profession.
Talks continued between various Video Coordinators over the next few years until the summer of 1994, when a handful of Video Coordinators gathered in South Bend, Ind. on the campus of Notre Dame and there formed The Collegiate Sports Video Association CSVA . At that inaugural meeting, elections were held and Bunn was elected to the office of President in which he served two consecutive terms.
From that time until now, Bunn has seen the CSVA grow from a few charter members to a membership of over 200.
Bunn has served on various advisory committees within the organization and has been an attendee at every convention since the first at Notre Dame. In 2002 Bunn received the highest honor given by the CSVA, The Bob Matey Award as The National Video Coordinator of the Year.
From 1993 until the present, Bunn has served as the Video Coordinator for the then Western Athletic Conference and now Mountain West Conference annual Basketball Tournament.
When Officials Replay was introduced to NCAA Football in the mid 2000's, Bunn was asked to consult for the MWC. Bunn also served as a Video Technician and Communicator in the Replay Booth for the MWC. Currently as part of
Bunn's daily responsibilities, he coordinates all replay responsibilities for Football and Basketball between the Officials, conference office and BYU.
!n 2004, Bunn was named Director of the BYU Athletic Video Department. His primary responsibility is Men's and Women's Basketball. He also assists with Football and 18 other NCAA Division I sanctioned sports.
During Bunn's tenure at BYU, he has participated in 19 football Bowl games;
7 Holiday Bowls, 1 Citrus Bowl, 2 Freedom bowls, 1 All American Bowl, 1 Melbourne Gridiron Bowl, 1 Aloha Bowl, 1 Copper Bowl, 1 Cotton Bowl, 2 Liberty Bowls, 1 Motor City Bowl, 1 Las Vegas Bowl, 1 Poinsettia Bowl, 7 WAC Basketball Tournaments, 13 MWC Basketball Tournaments, 2 West Coast Conference Tournaments.
Bunn is involved in many community service organizations outside of his BYU responsibilities; he has served for over 15 years in various Utah County Republican Party positions such as; Precinct Chairman and Vice Chairman, State and County Delegate, Steering, Executive and Central Committee member and District Legislative Chairman.
Bunn currently serves as CEO and President of the Board of Trustees for Intermountain Specialized Abuse and Treatment Center, a non-profit organization that treats abused children. He is Past President of his local Kiwanis Club and currently serves as Chairman of its fundraising committee. He also serves on his local High School Community
Council and teaches Sunday school in his church. Bunn received a B.A. in communications from BYU in 1989. A native of Richmond Utah, he is married to the former Lorie Petersen. They have two daughters, Elisha and McKella and a son-in-law Patrick Rhoades Jr.
