ATOMOS AND STORY AND HEART RELEASE LOGLINE SHORT FILM SHOT ENTIRELY ON THE TRADE SHOW FLOOR

Eleven great directors and just four days to shoot a film and all on the Atomos booth at the biggest video industry event of the year. That was the ambitious idea behind the new short Logline, released today.

Shooting live on the showroom floor at NAB in Vegas: how hard could it be? So Atomos booked one of the biggest spaces in the show hall and partnered up with filmmaking academy Story & Heart, who set about scripting, designing sets, getting kit and bringing a cast and crew together.

Story & Heart suggested recruiting not one, but several incredibly talented directors for what Joe Simon called a huge collaboration between everybody. The Diamond Brothers, Sarah Estela, Mick Jones, Lee Morton, Christina Ienna, Adrien Oneiga, Justin Derry, Julia Swain and Chase Smith joined him, with each directing a section of the film all volunteering their time.

Fellow manufacturers and friends in the industry especially X-Rite and G-technology - pitched in to provide the gear for the shoot. Filming a short film at NAB is about as insane as it sounds - but like any production, if you bring the right people together and have the right support, like we did from Atomos, you can pull it off, says Henry Proegler, Producer at Story & Heart.

Shooting a film at NAB wasnt the only first. It was also the first time that the new Atomos Sumo 19 inch monitor recorder was used on a set, alongside the smaller 7 inch Shogun series. The high-brightness production display is unique, being the first at the size to offer recording. It also features Atomos special AtomHDR mode which allows users to accurately monitor for HDR.

The new device got extremely positive reviews from the crew. The Sumo is amazing! said Joe Simon. HDR mode allows you to see all of a cameras dynamic range so you can really see everything in your frame, which is so helpful with a crazy production like this.

NAB attendees had the chance to watch the ambitious project come to fruition in just a few days, and see what can be achieved on a limited budget, even in tricky circumstances.

Filming in the middle of such a big live event even after extensive prep and on a specially-built set meant a host of challenges, such as how to handle the ambient noise and unexpected light sources. That took smart scripting and clever on-the-hoof fixes from the directors.

This is another way to grow: put yourself in unfamiliar environments with new people and problem solve. And it is so much fun, said Lee Morton.
