ASECNA and ICAO renew confidence in ales with significant contracts acro African countries

World ATM Congress, 14 February, 2013 Thales and Cofely Ineo, world leaders in air traffic management (ATM) solutions, are proud to announce that following a comprehensive competitive tendering process, a contract was signed today with ASECNAand the ICAO Technical Cooperation Bureau, for the supply and installation of 11 Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radars (MSSR) and 11 TopSky-ATC systems, deployed across 12 different African countries.Since the mid-90s, ASECNA has been actively implementing measures to improve air traffic control monitoring systems across its airspace (which represents approximately 1.5 times the size of Europe's airspace), in an effort to boost its efficiency, effectiveness and safety. This project will pave the way for ASECNA to switch from procedural control to radar control, thus drastically improving both separation and traffic safety.

With decades of experience and leadership in the region, Thales is the undisputed number one preferred partner for air traffic management solutions in Africa. The Thales TopSky-ATC and MSSRs solutions are particularly well adapted to local ANSPs operational requirements and over 30 African countries have chosen TopSky-ATC systems to control their airspace.

This contract is further validation of the strength of the confidence placed in Thales by leading regional operators like ASECNA and more globally by most major African ANSPs, reinforcing Thales's role as a key partner to African ANSPs towards a Single African Sky.

Ineo Engineering & Systems is ASECNA's preferred partner for the development and implementation of telecommunications equipment specific to air traffic management and for the deployment and integration of turnkey airport systems.

Under this contract, Ineo Engineering & Systems will provide and deploy systems and equipment which will complement the TopSky-ATC system (ConcerToIP: full IP Voice Communication and Control System developed by Ineo E&S according to Eurocae standards, GPS Master Clock System, Voice Recorder System, Control and Monitoring System, Workstations,...) allowing ASECNA to have complete, coherent and efficient ATM systems. Ineo Engineering & Systems thus affirms its expertise in the field of ATM and confirms its position as a partner to ASECNA and ICAO.
