Know your Network with PCMD from Schneider Electric

As part of its dedication to innovations in power management solutions, Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, has developed its unique PC Mimic Diagram (PCMD) software, enabling customers to create a simple model of their electrical network.

PCMD is a PC based software tool designed for users with minimal computer experience. It allows the customer to view circuit breakers, feeders and other major items of electrical plant on an interactive diagram. The software determines, after each entered change, the electrical status of every feeder and thus reacts to user-entered switching operations just like a real network. The network diagram may be displayed on a large screen and used as a replacement for a wall mimic diagram.

The software offers a huge benefit to customers as they can check and test a revised version of their network before any major maintenance work or changes are implemented, determining which areas will be left live. This helps to avoid any safety issues. The network diagram can be easily manipulated by clicking on the devices and changing their status from the list of options, allowing businesses to experiment with every scenario of their power network. The system then dynamically determines the electrical state of each feeder in the network and displays it as Live', Dead', Isolated', or Earthed'.

An additional benefit of PCMD is that switching schedules can be interactively created, thus streamlining a tedious manual task. The process allows the schedule creator to fully understand the effects that each operation of distribution switchgear will have on their system. PCMD assists with the process by preventing dangerous operations, and warning about potential hazards.

The model can be copied to share within the business and provide interactive training and familiarisation. There is also an assessment mode built in to aid in assessing an individual's competency to operate the network. All actions and operations carried out by users are recorded on the network in a System Activity Log for later analysis and can be added to their HR record.

PCMD is completely unique to Schneider Electric and is fully interoperable allowing the user to add equipment asset information into the system, such as manufacturer, equipment type, serial number and rating. The program uses standard Microsoft Office products and is compatible with any modern PC equipped with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 operating systems.
