Cerner Chooses HP to Improve Performance, Clinical Data ProcessingHealthcare delivery systems provider uses HP Vertica Analytics Platform to load, analyze 10 billion performance records per month
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - HP today announced that healthcare delivery systems provider Cerner Corporation is using the HP Vertica Analytics Platform as part of its high-end solutions for healthcare providers.
Cerner selected the HP Vertica Analytics Platform to displace a legacy data warehousing solution that was reaching the upper limits of its analytics capacity. Cerner experienced almost a 100-fold increase in data analytics speed.

HP HAVEn, the company's recently announced big data analytics platform, leverages HP's analytics software, hardware and services to create the next generation of big data-ready analytics applications and solutions. HP HAVEn combines proven technologies from HP Autonomy, HP Vertica and HP ArcSight, as well as key industry initiatives such as Hadoop, to enable clients and partners to gain value from 100 percent of their information and speeding time to value.
An integral part of the HP HAVEn initiative, the HP Vertica Analytics Platform has allowed Cerner to dramatically improve the performance monitoring of its Cerner Millennium solution. HP Vertica also has improved the data handling capacity of Cerner's Health Facts platform.
The Cerner Millennium architecture places patient information at the clinician's fingertips at the optimal time and place with appropriate metrics and reporting capabilities. The HP Vertica Analytics Platform delivers performance information that allows Cerner to stay ahead of service issues and to analyze usage patterns for continued improvements.
Cerner Health Facts Reporting enables organizations to leverage the data generated by health systems to create information to improve patient safety and the quality of care. Using the HP Vertica Analytics Platform, Cerner can quickly and easily analyze massive amounts of information for advanced clinical analysis and improved patient care.
Cerner's Millennium and Health Facts solutions are under constant demand, requiring uninterrupted availability and stable performance to power the 24/7 delivery of healthcare. To ensure its solutions are continually available and running efficiently, Cerner has created unique performance records that act as timers, allowing Cerner to generate and analyze performance metrics for key segments of its code. Now, Cerner is able to load and analyze more than 10 billion Response Time Measurement System (RTMS) timers per month across all of its client systems.
RTMS timers also serve as breadcrumbs across an application, allowing Cerner to track the workflows of physicians as they treat patients. The information collected is nonclinical in nature and only used to track the usage and performance of Millennium. This workflow information helps Cerner customize the Millennium solution for individual physicians, and also helps the company develop educational materials to help train physicians on the most effective use of their systems.
