Live Talk System Integration: How to build two large Full-IP OB vans (during COVID-19) posted: 04/06/2020
Broadcast Solutions looks back on a year's long history of building OB vans, SNGs or fixed broadcast facilities. More than 400 projects reflect an in-depth knowledge in integrating broadcast and media systems in vehicles, studio facilities or any other environment. In this Live Talk we will show you some of our general approaches when it comes to system integration and some special measures taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic happening during our projects. We will broadcast all this live from an OB van we built for NEP Belgium and RTBF.
Special times call for special measures. In early April 2020, RTBF, Belgium's public broadcaster for the country's French-speaking community, took delivery of the first of two ground breaking, full-IP OB trucks. The vehicle, built by Broadcast Solutions in Germany, is being leased by NEP Belgium to public broadcaster RTBF. A second, identical OB truck is currently under construction in the Broadcast Solutions facility and will be delivered in mid-June.
Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Broadcast Solutions, together with customers NEP Belgium and RTBF and manufacturers had to implement special measures to plan, design, configure and handover the 16 cam OBs. In this talk NEP Belgium's Geert Thoelen (Technical Director) and Broadcast Solutions' Axel K hlem (Senior System Architect) explain the overall project management when building an OB van and the changes to the overall workflow due to COVID-19 and how all partners implemented special measures to deliver the OB van on time!
The OB Van was built at Broadcast Solutions headquarters in Germany and all partners used remote sessions, a few web cameras and microphones for confirmation purposes as well as via VPN in order to deliver the OB on time.
