Top SA Movie Producer will expose AFDA PE film students to the real world of the industry

Andr Scholtz, who has produced and co-produced more than 27 full length South African feature films since 1976, as well as 7 television drama and comedy series for the SABC, M-Net and kykNET, has recently been appointed as the Head of Film at the AFDA Port Elizabeth campus.

Andr has worked with top industry practitioners, including Leon Schuster and Koos Roets, on some of the country's most successful film and television productions. These include You Must Be Joking', Oh Shucks it's Shuster', Zulu on My Stoep', Panic Mechanic' (also a co-writer), Millennium Menace', Dryfsand' (Television series) and more recently the film Schuks! Your Country Needs You' along with many more.

His latest film, 'n Pawpaw vir my Darling is currently on circuit and made over R1 million within its first week.

PE Campus Dean, Denise Roodt, said We are excited to have Andr join the team in PE. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in South Africa with more experience in the business of making films and our students are exceptionally privileged to learn from someone of his calibre.

As much as I am in a position to expose our PE students to the real world of film making in South Africa, I will be experiencing the academic world of film making. A new challenge and one which I am looking forward to. I have had the pleasure of working with a number of AFDA graduates in recent years and found them well-grounded practitioners in their respective disciplines, said Scholtz on his decision to join AFDA PE.

AFDA Port Elizabeth is now open for 2016 applications and enrolments into the Undergraduate BA degree in Motion Picture Medium (Film) or Live Performance. Late enrolment will stay open for the month of February.

AFDA: The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance opened in Post Elizabeth in 2015 and was originally founded in 1994 by Bata Passchier, Garth Holmes and Deon Opperman. It is a private a specialized institution focused on entertainment and media. The PE campus currently offers the AFDA Undergraduate BA degrees (3 years) in Motion Picture Medium or Live Performance.
