Camera-to-screen collaboration propelled even further with Baselight and BLG
At NAB 2015, FilmLight demonstrates a total step change in the speed and versatility with which colour graded media can be produced, shared and changed inexpensively at every stage of the production-post process. Underlining the need for co-operation to deliver the creative colour pipeline, FilmLight will be represented on eight partner booths at NAB2015, and a key partner will also be present on the FilmLight booth, SL6830.
By decoupling media from its colour metadata with the Baselight Linked Grade (BLG), FilmLight will show that expensive operations - like waiting to see what your shot looks like, waiting for graded dailies before starting an edit, or round-tripping between editorial, VFX and the finishing suite every time a creative colour decision changes - is now as out of date as waiting for film to be processed or a tape to copy.
To show the benefits of starting the grading and colour management process at the point of acquisition, AJA Video Systems (SL2505) will have a FilmLight Daylight on-set grading system as part of their camera and recorder demonstration.
Long-standing partner Avid (SU902) will host presentations from Los Angeles-based post-production house, Chainsaw, which delivers some of the biggest shows on prime time television (including Game of Thrones, The Amazing Race and American Idol). Chainsaw editor Randy Magalski and colourist Andy Lichtstein will provide a deep-dive on their live and interactive Media Composer/Baselight BLG renderless workflow.
New partner Band Pro (C10408) will be demonstrating multi-camera dailies processing using Daylight, the FilmLight on-set colour management and grading tool, and BLG workflow. The powerful Daylight dailies platform will also be displayed on the Codex booth (C1817) combined with Slate, shared storage, and review and digital asset management systems from Codex.
At the Dolby stand (SU1702), renowned colourists will demonstrate the creative possibilities of Dolby Vision high dynamic range imagery on episodic and long-form content on the Baselight high-performance colour grading system. The presentations also include the Baselight for Avid plugin with the Slate controller for an optimised render-free workflow.
Panasonic (C3607) will show the possibilities of in-camera looks on its new VariCam 35 4K camera/recorder, as well as its RAW workflow using Baselight and Daylight as the platforms for shot management, colour management and high-performance transcoding.
Highlighting the outstanding visual quality of high dynamic range (HDR) acquisition, Sony will present HDR workflow integration at their stand (C11001). FilmLight's high-performance Baselight colour grading system provides the ideal environment for high dynamic range grading and will be shown alongside the BVM-X300 master monitor.
The Foundry (SL6329) will host daily presentations from UK-based Glassworks on recent projects using NUKE Studio with Baselight for NUKE. This will feature the benefits from adding the Baselight grading toolset directly in VFX platforms.
Finally, the FilmLight booth (SL6830) is hosting collaborative presentations with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. FilmLight, ACES Product Partner, will focus on the integrated ACES colour workflow within FilmLight's BLG and Baselight grading system designed by SKYLAB for Neill Blomkamp's 2015 feature Chappie. FilmLight will also be collaborating in the conference session, Coming to You Live: ACES 1.0' Tues 14 April, 3pm, S220.
Our partners at NAB are making some of the most significant advances in the evolving digital media landscape today, said Wolfgang Lempp, co-founder of FilmLight. They are looking to FilmLight to complete the picture. Baselight, Daylight, FLIP and Baselight Editions are recognised as the most creative, the most productive and the most efficient colour grading and management tools.
As well as working with these partners, FilmLight is launching new hardware configurations and new software releases alongside Daylight and Baselight for NUKE at NAB2015. Comprehensive demonstrations of the complete product range can be seen on FilmLight's booth: SL6830.
