SMPTE November Educational Webcast - ACES .0: eory and Practice

The Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) is a complete framework for digital color representation, reproduction, processing, distribution, and archival mainly aimed to theatrical, TV, and animation features. Current major version 1.0 has been recently released and introduces new concepts and methodologies. In this webcast a review of current ACES terminology, color-science and workflows will be presented for both novice audiences as well as those already acquainted with pre-release ACES. Then, beginning with the authors real-world experience, a description of an ACES use-case for theatrical production will be discussed from on-set, to postproduction and visual effects (VFX), to delivery.

SMPTE Time Code Summits and Survey

SMPTE has hosted Time Code Summits in both Los Angeles and London, with the last one scheduled for New York on Nov. 16. Those that are unable to attend one of the Summits in person are invited to participate in reinventing Time Code by participating in the online survey at www.smpte.org/timecode by Nov. 30.

The Vista Project

The Vista Project competition is still open for student submissions. Students may enter by submitting a maximum 400-word summary pitch of their project and a detailed budget describing how they would use $5,000 in award funds by Nov. 15. Complete details are available at www.thevistaproject.com.
