Seen on Screen: NESN.com Launches NESN Fuel, NBC Sports Debuts Jee Owens Documentary

On February 14, NBC Sports Films debuted its latest project, More Than Gold: Jesse Owens and the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Narrated by Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman, the one-hour documentary recounted Owens' historic performance at the 1936 Olympics Games in Berlin, Germany and explored the intersection of sports, culture, and race in the turbulent years leading up to WWII. Through interviews with former Olympic teammates, historians, and family members, More Than Gold highlighted how Owens' victories in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay and long jump in Berlin inspired generations who followed him. Featured teammate interviews included three members of the 1936 U.S. team: Adolph Kiefer, Iris Cummings Critchell, and John Lysak. Additionally, More Than Gold showcased archival footage from the 1936 Berlin Games, including restored elements from Olympia, the official film of the 1936 Olympics by German director Leni Riefenstahl

Fox Sports secured multi-year television rights to Titans of Mavericks, the big-wave surfing event that takes place at the surf spot Mavericks just off the coastline of Half Moon Bay, CA. Titans of Mavericks is a globally recognized big-wave event running from November 1 until March 31, where 24 of the world's best surfers skillfully challenge massive waves on the biggest day of the winter season. The 90-minute primetime television production utilized multi-camera highlights and super slow motion cameras, helicopters, drones, Cineflex units, in-water POVs, multi-vessel camera mounts, mounted athlete cameras, and other advanced tools. In addition, a fully art directed set presented play-by-play action and first-hand interviews during the competition
