Agricultural Giants in Beilun Cooperate with Universities

Recently, Wang Guizhang, general manager of FANGYE, a company researching and developing melons and fruits in Beilun District, has been studying on a new variety of raspberry together with agriculture experts from Zhejiang Wanli University. Zhang has just won a government fund to support his project concerning the cultivation of raspberry.

Wang is considered an able man of agriculture in Beilun and was honored the title of advanced sci-tech worker in Zhejiang Province . In addition to his dedication to raspberry cultivation, he also devotes himself to growing fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, Elatagnusconteta Roxb and figs and other rare fruits in the region, as well as to promoting comprehensive development of fruit involving research, exhibition, production and marketing.

In a region featured by powerful industry, business of vegetables and fruits is also prosperous. In recent years, Beilun District has tried hard to improving the quality of agricultural industry except for enlarging its scale. Aiming to build high-quality agriculture, reduce costs and make up for shortcomings, the district keeps innovating on agricultural science and technology, accelerating agricultural restructuring, perfecting the industrial chain and optimizing the industry.

On the basis of a stable production scale, the district focuses on improving the quality efficiency of the industry and on building a renowned brand through optimizing varieties. In the meantime, it encourages agricultural giants to cooperation with universities and research institutes. Till now, over 10 leading enterprises like FANGYE have established long-term cooperation with Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Ningbo Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Ningbo Universities, etc.

Besides, the project of reducing pesticides, controlling pests and increasing cost-effectiveness characteristic of green technology of pest prevention and control is carried out all around the district. In 2015, the amount of pesticides used in the district witnessed a reduction of 8.9 tons and chemical fertilizer 100 tons. At present, over 40 bases and products are recognized officially as pollution-free, green and organic; the up-to-date rate of local primary agricultural products is 99%; and Beilun's green and organic agricultural products are having bigger names in the market.

With the ideas of the Internet of Things + and the Internet+ to create smart agriculture, the district strives to build automatic monitoring platforms for agricultural production, quality-control systems for processing and online transaction platforms for marketing, and so on. Currently, major bases of vegetables, fruits and flowers have been equipped with integrated watering and fertilizing facilities which have reduced production costs effectively and facilitated the transformation of agricultural industry. It is estimated that after using intelligent control facilities in a 50-mu vineyard, 42000 yuan of expenditure was saved while 89000 yuan of profit was increased.
