CALL FOR 7th BRICS FILM FESTIVAL FEATURE FILM SUBMISSION.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) invites South African filmmakers to submit feature fiction films to screen at the BRICS Film Festival in Shanghai, China. It will be held July 2022.

South Africa is a member of BRICS, an acronym coined for its association with five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The BRICS Film Festival established in 2016 and hosted by the BRICS rotating presidency, is designed to expand and encourage film exchanges among the BRICS and promote the common prosperity and development of culture.

Twenty-five films are scheduled to be screened at the festival with five films from each BRICS member state: This year, the BRICS Film Festival will select 2 competition films and 3 screening films from the films submitted by each country. All the festival films are for non-commercial screenings only.

This year, the film viewings and awards discussion by juries will take place online. The screenings will be organized in designated BRICS Film Festival theaters in Shanghai for 5 days, with no more than 2 screenings for each film and no more than 50 screenings in total.

ELIGIBILITY

Films submitted must be feature films (The length shall be no less than 70 minutes) completed after 1 January 2021.

Films should have not been previously screened at any BRICS Film Festival,

Priority will be given to films that have not been released in theaters in China.

Films may include feature films, documentaries and animations

Only feature films that have been directed by filmmakers who have completed no more than three (3) feature-length films in their careers.

In the case of international co-productions, the member state must be a major partner in the project for the film to be eligible.

All films should be submitted in English or English subtitled.

Films must have been classified by the Film Publication Board (FPB).

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

To submit films for consideration, the filmmaker/producer must send all required documentation and provide a link to an online screener of the film.

SUBMISSIONS

All approved submissions will be forwarded to the festival selection committee for selection.

Online links of screeners for preview shall be submitted before June 10, 2022.

Press kit and details of key creative team i.e., director, producer, and main cast (film details in the English language)

High resolution poster (300dpi)

Trailer (in the .mov/.mp4 formats)

5 High resolution production stills

Director's biography and filmography, and two photographs of the director

Promotional material

Screening format: DCP/Digital DCP

Downloadable video with English subtitles

Original language dialogue continuity and a time-coded English subtitles file.

Online linkers Video: MP4/Avi/Mov file with 1080P (1920*1080HD) resolution; Video encoding: H.264 or MPEG, Audio: 2.1 or 5.1 with AAC audio coding

Subtitles: Films in languages other than English shall be subtitled in English.

Film Publication Board certificate

NB! Non-compliance to the above-mentioned will result in disqualification.

Please note:

The production of the participating films should be completed no earlier than 1 January 2021.

Films that have already been part of the BRICS member states festival programs cannot apply again.

Filmmakers should bear in mind that the NFVF and DSAC reserve the right to select the films to be presented at the film festival.

Deadline for submissions is 3rd June 2022. LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
