ZiggoS Entertainment Experience nominated for EMMY Award

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that the user-generated film project Ziggos Entertainment Experience has been nominated for an International Digital Emmy Award. The Emmys are the most prestigious international television awards.

Ziggos Entertainment Experience will compete against entries from Argentina, England and Singapore in the category Digital Program - Non Fiction. Ziggos Commercial Director Marcel Nijhoff: We are very pleased that the original idea of a film made by, and for the public using professional multimedia support has been such a success. Not only the film made by Paul Verhoevens team itself, but also the concept of the Entertainment Experience community on the Internet, has been recognised by experts around the world. The nomination is therefore a wonderful appreciation of the concept. The International Emmy Awards will be awarded on 8 April during MIPTV in Cannes.

Entertainment Experience Ziggos Entertainment Experience was launched in 2011 when Hollywood director Paul Verhoeven (director of such films as Basic Instinct and Black Book) called on the public to help him make a film. Anyone who has ever dreamed of working in the entertainment industry could participate. Script writers, actors, filmmakers, editors, directors, composers, musicians, set and graphic designers, professionals and non-professionals, all had the chance to work with the Hollywood director. This resulted in a unique film project, which Paul Verhoeven produced and directed together with the Ziggo Entertainment Experience community. Never before has an audience had so much influence on the content of a film.

Involvement After the launch of the first three minutes of the script, written by screenwriter and actress Kim van Kooten, the Dutch public had the opportunity to continue the writing process. From the 1,250 entries received, Paul Verhoeven chose the winning scripts together with screenwriter Robert Alberdingk Thijm. Via the publicity campaign involving 42 colleges and universities, thousands of people joined the open casting for the film and 9,500 hours of video material was submitted to the Entertainment Experience website. Eventually, over 36,000 people followed the project and contributed to the User Generated version and the User Inspired version by Paul Verhoeven, called Tricked (the Dutch title is Steekspel).

Tricked The film Tricked will premiere in Dutch cinemas on 28 March 2013 through the We Want Cinema platform. The film has not gone unnoticed abroad either; Tricked premiered at the Rome Film Festival.

Praise In addition to the Emmy nomination the film project won an award on the One Show for interactive entertainment concept, and it is still in competition for the upcoming Rose dOr Montreux and MipCube 2013. In 2013, the Entertainment Experience China will be launched.

International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is a membership-based organisation comprised of leading media and entertainment personalities, from more than 50 countries and 500 companies from all sectors of television together with Internet, mobile and technology parties. A number of events are organised annually, such as the prestigious International Emmy Awards Ceremony in New York, The International Digital Emmy Awards at MIPTV and a series of industry events such as Academy Day, The International Emmy World Television Festival and meetings on substantive industry topics.
