Exclusively positioned to migrate and power multi-platform video workflows in the cloud for leading media and entertainment companies
SAN FRANCISCO, April 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ Encoding.com, the most trusted company for cloud-based media processing, will announce at this year's NAB Show in Las Vegas support for several important new features that enable premium content providers to migrate critical video supply chain workflows to the cloud, including support for Apple ProRes encoding, Dolby Vision HDR transcoding, Nielsen CPVOD watermarking and ultra-fast processing for large video files via its proprietary chunk parallel processing technology.
Enabling entertainment companies such as NBCUniversal, WarnerMedia and Discovery Communications to efficiently scale their video processing platforms in the cloud has always been our mission, said Jeff Malkin, president at Encoding.com. With the introduction of these significant new platform features, our customers can now scale all of their broadcast and OTT video workflows in the cloud, completely eliminate the cost and challenges of managing in-house and utilize cutting-edge video technologies to create incredible consumer experiences.
Apple ProRes
Encoding.com is proud to introduce support for encoding and decoding of ProRes. Apple ProRes is one of the most popular codecs in professional post-production and our Encoding.com customers can now take advantage of powerful cloud media processing while enjoying access to ProRes technology developed for high-quality, high-performance workflows. Our scalable, Encoding.com enterprise media processing platform can process 2 files or 2000 files while automatically scaling to process files simultaneously and in a fraction of real-time.
Encoding.com will support all versions of the ProRes codec from 422 up to 4444, including 4444 XQ with the PQ and HLG HDR metadata. By integrating ProRes codec encoding into the Encoding.com 64-bit Linux-based platform, we provide even more flexibility for our customers. Support for ProRes compliments our extensive media solutions packages to meet demanding file-based workflow requirements. Encoding.com now provides customers with even more choices from transcoding, dynamic assembly, packaging, automated QC, DRM, dynamic ad insertion to forensic watermarking and more.
Dolby Vision
With a growing number of premium video content providers wanting to distribute ultra-high quality videos utilizing High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, Encoding.com will now provide support for Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision transforms your entertainment experience with ultra-vivid picture quality - incredible brightness, contrast, color, and detail that bring entertainment to life before your eyes. When compared to a standard picture, Dolby Vision can deliver colors never before seen on a screen, highlights that are up to 40 times brighter, and blacks that are 10 times darker. The result is a refined, lifelike image that will make you forget you are looking at a screen. Dolby Laboratories has been working closely with the company to certify its Dolby Vision implementation and to ensure customers can deliver the highest quality video to Dolby Vision supported devices.
Our goal at Dolby is to provide content creators and content distributors easy access to technologies that deliver spectacular experiences, said Jean-Christophe Morizur, Senior Director of Professional Solutions and Products at Dolby Laboratories. We are excited that Dolby Vision is now available via Encoding.com, which will scale the distribution of content created in Dolby Vision to more people.
Nielsen CPVOD Watermarking
Encoding.com was certified by Nielsen for the ability to insert Nielsen CPVOD audio watermarks into video content. Nielsen watermarks have played a major role in helping media and entertainment companies, broadcasters and advertisers utilize a standardized audience measurement system that has allowed it to become industry currency. To track content views, a Nielsen audio watermark is inserted into the video content during the encoding process. Working very closely with Nielsen, Encoding.com enabled this functionality in a cloud-based computing architecture. In addition, Encoding.com has recently received certification for the ability to convert existing Nielsen PCM audio watermarks already embedded in video content to ID3 tags so that videos initially broadcast on television can continue to be tracked when viewed on iOS devices and content companies can receive credit for those additional views within a specified time from the initial broadcast.
Ultra-fast Video Processing
Encoding.com, at the NAB Show 2019, will also unveil its new ultra-fast video processing service called Ludicrous HLS,enabling video content providers to process long-form HD and UHD videos into multi-bitrate HLS packages in a fraction of the video duration. As content companies produce higher quality HDR and hi-res (4k / 8k) videos, source video files are growing in size and density resulting in longer processing times when producing output renditions for OTT distribution. Ludicrous HLS significantly reduces processing time by chopping the source video into small chunks, doing all of the transcoding and packaging in parallel, and stitching the transcoded chunks back together again. For example, using Ludicrous HLS to process a 2-hour HD movie into 9 output renditions packaged for HLS was completed in 15 minutes. This is a great leap forward in video transcoding-as-a-service.
For more information about Encoding.com's support for Apple ProRes, Dolby Vision, Nielsen watermarks or the company's proprietary Ludicrous HLS processing, please visit Encoding.com at NAB 2019 at Booth SU5224 or schedule a meeting.
