KCET Celebrates LGBT Pride Mon with Special Programming roughout June

BURBANK, CA - May 29, 2014 - In honor of LGBT Pride Month, KCET, the nations largest independent public television station serving Southern and Central California, will broadcast four fascinating documentaries during the month of June which recognize the diversity of this community and highlight the significant impact that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals have had on the world.

I AM - Monday, June 2, at 9 p.m.

Having lost the opportunity to come out to her own mother, an Indian lesbian filmmaker, now living in the U.S., travels across India to meet with parents of other gay and lesbian South Asians. This personal and revealing film journeys to a country where being gay was, until very recently, a criminal and punishable offense. It is a film about a contemporary and relevant social justice issue that questions assumptions and brings new international dialogue around sexuality and human rights.

THE CAMPAIGN - Saturday, June 14, at 8 p.m.

Heartbreaking and inspiring, THE CAMPAIGN is a human drama that follows ordinary people compelled by a passionate belief in equality to go far beyond their everyday selves. Theyre caught in the political firestorm of one of the largest social issue campaign the U.S. has ever seen: the campaign to defeat Californias Proposition 8 and to defend same-sex marriage. The passage of Prop 8 was a great shock to many, not only in California but across the nation and around the world. By reaching beyond the issues to follow strong characters, the film holds universal themes and appeal: the mixed emotions of family relationships, self-empowerment through activism, and the struggle in deciding how much of oneself to sacrifice for the cause.

A PLACE TO LIVE: THE STORY OF TRIANGLE SQUARE - Thursday, June 19, at 10 p.m.

What does it mean to be a gay senior citizen trying to survive on limited resources in America? This documentary explores this issue by chronicling the development and construction of Triangle Square Hollywood in Hollywood, California - the countrys first affordable housing facility for seniors.

QUESTION ONE - Friday, June 20, at 9 p.m.

QUESTION ONE is a probing and insightful look at one of the most bitterly divisive and issues facing our nation today - same sex marriage. Award-winning journalists Joe Fox and James Nubile got unprecedented access to cover both sides of Maines historic 2009 marriage referendum election. The result is a searing documentary that brings us up-close and personal to one election that tore a state apart and was instrumental in shaping the national landscape of this fast evolving civil rights issue.
