Guerilla Acting

It goes without saying that web content creation has exploded since the advent of social media and businesses that hit on the magic formula, cutting through the noise, understand the value in maintaining their online audience.

In South Africa we're spoiled for creative choice but how do you as a business owner create shareable content without tearing your hair out or breaking the bank. If breaking the bank's not an issue, you hire an award winning production team/company and get yourself a white elephant made (for the most part). If you're smart, you get someone like Charlie Gordon to do it for you.

We know how to package stuff in SA really well but engaging content beyond the eye candy is another head-space. The disconnect is how something shot with a mobile phone camera can rack up one million views and something shot on high end gear by a professional crew and cast can go largely unnoticed or unappreciated. The majority of Africans live in a low-tech (social) world and we connect with each other in very uncomplicated and fundamental ways. When I connect with a client I'm more focused on capturing who they are as a human being than on the work itself. The work is something you just have to do but the real magic happens behind the scenes.

We shot the promo video for Contract Accountants in one day from 9am to 6pm and as low-tech and cost effective to the company as we possibly could. It's great when the client trusts you enough to give you creative freedom and is willing to take risks and understands that the viewer doesn't really care who you are or what you do but is more interested in connecting with you as a human being. The client tends to be more relaxed then and open to my version of guerilla acting and interesting things can be captured from people who have little or no professional acting experience
