Resurface launches with eight-billion-dollar console

Resurface, the audio console marketplace, launches this month with the sale of arguably the worlds most lucrative mixing desk

Resurface is a new online audio console marketplace and resource, designed for trading digital consoles and control surfaces in professional music and post. The company has been created by pro audio industry professionals, Tim Hurrell and Ben Nemes, and is launching its services with the sale of one of the worlds most famous mixing desks, the Harrison MPC4-D Digital Motion Picture Console from the Cary Grant Theatre at Sony Studios. This 384-channel console, currently housed in the largest re-recording and mixing environment in the world, has mixed hundreds of films, from Robin Hood to Transformers, helping to bring in nearly eight billion dollars at box offices worldwide.

Resurface has been developed in response to the changing requirements of the professional audio industry, enabling professionals and companies to list their second-hand consoles or to search for a replacement. Over the last twenty years, technology has moved on from analogue to digital consoles, and from traditional mixing consoles to control surfaces and hybrid combinations, explained Tim Hurrell, one of Resurfaces directors. A console is a huge investment for a facility but, with such a specialised product, its not always so easy to sell one second-hand. Owners are periodically looking to upgrade, cross-grade, dispose and acquire in the secondary market, or simply to understand the current market value of what they own. Our worldwide network of contacts enables us to identify and attract qualified buyers and reputable sellers, matching the needs of one to the other.

Many of the consoles offered for sale on Resurface were originally sold and installed by one of the Resurface team, since both directors held senior sales director positions in sales at Avid and have over fifty years pro audio experience between them. Nemes and Hurrell were also both instrumental in the launch of the Avid Pro Tools ICON control surface, and estimate there are around 6000 of these mixing surfaces globally. In many cases, these much sought-after, industry-standard consoles are more available and affordable than ever. Resurface exists to enable owners to offer their equipment assets for sale, and for buyers to find their perfect console.
