Technicolor Worked on 5 Best Picture Nominees; Additional Oscar-nominated Films

Technicolor's industry-leading experience and creative talent enables filmmakers to push the boundaries of entertainment and immersive storytelling.

Hollywood is abuzz with word of this year's highly-anticipated Oscar nominations. As in year's past, Technicolor was fortunate to have contributed top-notch talent and experience to a number of award contenders, often reteaming with major filmmakers to bring their visionary stories to life. The list of more than a dozen films includes five Best Picture nominees:

The Shape of Water - Guillermo del Toro's masterwork leads the field with 13 nominations, more than twice as many as any other film. MR. X from the Technicolor family of brands reteamed with the director, providing the film's seamless visual effects and creature animation - adding elements of life that enabled the film's unusual leading man to connect with the audience.

Darkest Hour - among this film's six nominations is one for Cinematography. Working once again with director Joe Wright and DP Bruno Delbonnel, AFC, Technicolor Supervising Digital Colorist Peter Doyle said: Bruno is a visionary cinematographer and it was inspiring to work with him in developing the look of the world that the film inhabits. In addition to color finishing by Doyle, dailies were handled with Technicolor London.

Phantom Thread - Technicolor London also handled the dailies for this film by Paul Thomas Anderson, which also received six nominations.

Lady Bird - joining Best Director nominees del Toro and Anderson is Greta Gerwig, whose feature film debut earned five nominations; Technicolor Hollywood oversaw theatrical dailies from Technicolor Postworks NY, which also provided color finishing.

The Post - Technicolor also provided dailies (with Technicolor Postworks NY) and color finishing for Steven Spielberg's film, which received two nominations. Technicolor's Senior Supervising Digital Colorist Michael Hatzer reteamed with the director and his Oscar-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski for this thrilling historical drama with a timely message about the crucial role of journalism.

The other nominated films that Technicolor worked on include:

Blade Runner 2049 (5 nominations) - MPC from the Technicolor family of brands contributed the VES nominated visual effects for the photoreal CG version of the Virtual Rachael character.

The Breadwinner - nominated for Best Animated Feature; Technicolor Toronto provided full picture post and sound on Nora Twomey's film illustrating the storytelling power of animation.

Additional nominated films Technicolor teams worked on: All the Money in the World; The Big Sick; The Florida Project; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; Logan; and Molly's Game.

Additionally, Technicolor Marketing Services served two of the Best Picture nominees - The Post and Darkest Hour - as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Logan, and Molly's Game. The team also provided services on two nominated Best Documentary Features - Icarus and Strong Island - and Heroin(e), nominated for Best Documentary Short Subject.
