Marquis Broadcast transforms Avid disaster recovery speeds to any location with new Workspace Backup cloud support Recovery to live production in minutes, not weeks. Marquis Broadcast, the leading manufacturer of media and metadata management tools for post-production and broadcast, has announced an update to its Workspace Backup system that now also offers full cloud support. Entire workspaces can now be backed up to S3 storage, whether ground or cloud-based, allowing projects to be restored to anywhere that's required.
The ever-increasing capacity of Avid shared storage has completely transformed production processes, with faster networks, greater storage and more concurrent clients operating at ever-higher resolutions. However, the risk of outage especially of work in progress has become concentrated in increasingly larger systems, many of which are of petabyte scale. Conventional off-the-shelf backup software is singularly bad at recovering Avid projects and workspaces; it is neither fast enough to hit key production deadlines, nor is there any guarantee of recovering Avid projects with integrity. There s also no ability to recover work in progress based on operational priorities. This is where Workspace Backup can help; this powerful business continuity solution, designed especially for Avid ISIS and NEXIS systems, analyses and understands Avid architecture, offering the fastest restoration of mission-critical projects by workspace, project or bin. Project-aware analysis allows an individual project, or individual bin, to be restored to any location, together with only the media it references. Media may be on the workspace, or located in the cloud, but is not duplicated, no matter how often it is used.

Our design brief was not just to come up with a me too backup application, but to develop a solution that s wholly-optimised for disaster recovery and business continuity for Avid ISIS and NEXIS shared storage. We wanted to transform the recovery speed of mission-critical work in progress and, for larger enterprises, we wanted to provide a solution that could form part of an ISO 22301:2012-certified business continuity plan.
