LiveU highlighted the massive growth in contributions from live video over IP Data for live IP video traffic has doubled in the past two years, with approximately 1.5 million hours of live streaming delivered by LiveU in 2017.
LiveU a report with more than 2,000 customers in 100 countries, showing the rise of the contribution on cellular networks with respect to the satellite broadcast has made public. This study highlights the total increase in the demand for content live, geographic differences in the behavior of acquisition of video, change to HD, and more.
According to the internal report of LiveU, data for live IP video traffic has doubled in the past two years, with approximately 1.5 million hours of live streaming delivered by LiveU in 2017. Transmission live customer average is 2.7 hours per day.
With the advances in HD video quality, HD 720/1080 video traffic now accounts for almost 80% of all traffic delivered this year and there has been an increase of more than 120% in sessions of HD live compared to 2016.
The duration of the sessions of video has also increased with the geographical differences around the world. While the average session of contributions in Western Europe is 38 minutes, Africa averages longer sessions with 46 minutes. By normal general, Africa, and especially in countries like Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, are replacing satellite links with cell phones. This can be explained by the strength of the region 4G networks and lower costs that offer mobile links. Some broadcasters are also creating productions multi-camera using cellular transmission units.
LiveU data show the reliability of the networks consolidated with 79% of all the linked videos that are now delivered only through cellular networks (internet connection accounts for the remaining part satellite, WiFi and cable).
Speed Uplink average worldwide for the acquisition of video has reached 4, 5Mbps, with developed areas undergoing approximately 9 Mbps on average.
Samuel Wasserman, CEO and co-founder of LiveU, emphasizes that "this study highlights the transition from traditional methods of transmission to the cellular link. This trend is gaining even more traction with our LUV 4K HEVC solution that offers unparalleled quality and reliability to broadcasters and other content creators. We believe that the growth in 2018 will come from this transition, services in the cloud and HEVC. Providing a higher quality with one even larger market reliability, the HEVC improves the use of our technology in multiple genres. Already were seeing that its use goes beyond news, with our global customers looking to implement LU600 HEVC solution for live sports and other vertical segments".
