Sunday movie: Deadpool 2 - what you need to know

M-Net's Sunday movie Deadpool 2 is the 11th installment in the X-Film franchise, and also serves as a direct sequel to the first Deadpool movie.

If you enjoyed the first Deadpool movie, chances are the second installment won't disappoint, at least not for the reasons you might assume.

The much awaited sequel packs all the punches you'd expect from Deadpool, and the creators push the envelope - and blurs the line between what is acceptable and what is offensive, but that's why we love them.

Deadpool Deadpool 2 Plot Deadpool meets Russell, an angry teenage mutant who lives at an orphanage. Cable, a genetically enhanced soldier from the future, has his sights set on Russell and our heroic anti-hero realises that Russell will need his help and protection.

He gathers a group of mutants - Domino, Shatterstar and Bedlma, among others - to protect Russel from Cable.

WATCH: Deadpool 2 Official Trailer Reviews It's no surprise that even the harsher of critics enjoyed the second Deadpool installment. Sandie Angulo Chen from Common Sense Media said Reynolds' hilariously offensive antihero serves up another round of snarky, trash-talking, gory, pop-culture-bashing shenanigans that will appeal to those who loved the first film.

Michael O'Sullivan from the Washington Post said the film's real subversive superpower is the ability to laugh, unsparingly, at itself, while John Nugent fro Empire succinctly summed it up:

Funnier, filthier, and damn entertaining the film leaves no stone un-deconstructed: the naughty man-child of the X-Men universe who manages to beat them at their own game.
