Harris Corporation Receives NSA Type 1 Certification for Cryptographic Component of Anti-Scintillation/Anti-Jam Modem Highlights:

Certification makes Harris the only supplier with a Type 1-certified, protected wideband modem.

MELBOURNE, FL, June 6,2013 Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has received National Security Agency (NSA) Type 1 certification for a technology capable of ensuring that the U.S. Department of Defense can continue to utilize its communications network in the event of a nuclear attack or other stressed environments. The company received NSA certification for its KGV 90 device, which provides essential cryptographic and frequency hopping capabilities for the Harris Anti-Scintillation Anti-Jam (AS/AJ) Modem. With the KGV 90, the Harris modem is now the only protected wideband modem to receive Type 1 certification from the NSA. Extremely resistant to signal jamming, the Harris AS/AJ modem provides the highest anti-scintillation data rates available today. Anti-scintillation refers to the modems ability to operate following a nuclear event that can immobilize electronic communications systems. In 2012 Harris successfully demonstrated wideband protected communications in a contested environment over a Wideband Global SATCOM IV satellite. The modem is designed for the Protected Anti-Scintillation Anti-Jam Wideband Netcentric System (PAAWNS) program. The PAAWNS is being installed as part of two U.S. Army programs -- the AN/GSC-52 Modernization program and the Modernization of Enterprise Terminals program. Harris is the prime contractor for both programs, which will deliver next-generation military satellite communications and serve as the worldwide backbone for high-priority military communications and missile defense systems. NSA certification is a significant milestone in the progress of the PAAWNS program and provides Harris with a valuable discriminator in the protected wideband SATCOM market, said Bill Gattle, vice president, Aerospace Systems, Harris Government Communications Systems.
