HRH The Duchess of Cornwall marks ITV s 60th anniversary with a visit to This Morning

At the start of today's This Morning, hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby explained to viewers what a special day it was. Phillip said, Good morning, it's a very important day for all of us here at ITV today and we come to you by royal appointment. We have Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall in our gallery and we can't really continue unless we get a seal of approval... would it be OK to continue ma'am?

Viewers then witnessed live footage of The Duchess of Cornwall standing alongside This Morning crew members inside the gallery, as Her Royal Highness smiled and replied, Please continue.

Phillip said, Thank you very much indeed, we'll continue with the rest of our show. Before a beaming Holly added, It's so exciting!

Phillip went on to explain how as part of the royal visit earlier, The Duchess of Cornwall got to meet the This Morning team at ITV's Studio 8 alongside other ITV Daytime talent including hosts of Good Morning Britain, Loose Women and Lorraine Kelly.

Holly said, It was really nice to have the whole [ITV daytime] family together, obviously it is ITV's 60th anniversary and I think it was right that everyone got together.

Phillip then mentioned how The Duchess met This Morning's newest member, Clover the Guide Dog puppy. He said, The Duchess said that she wished her dogs were as well trained as ours, and Clover was incredibly well trained and well behaved this morning.

Her Royal Highness then proceeded to meet more of the This Morning on screen team including Denise Robertson MBE, Dr Chris Steele MBE, Alison Hammond, Gok Wan and Rylan Clark, before greeting studio crew members.

As viewers caught one final glimpse of The Duchess inside the This Morning gallery, Phillip mentioned, Thank you very much for your visit today ma'am, it's been a pleasure having you here. I know that she is off to meet a whole load of other people at ITV to celebrate our sixtieth anniversary, so we'll let you carry on with your day

Later in the show during his showbiz item, Rylan Clark commented on his meeting with The Duchess. He said, What a lovely woman! It was so nerve-wracking though, there was like a hundred people in the studio, everyone was here and we were in the presence of greatness, we had a lovely time. Rylan added, We were talking about how we once met before in Scotland and I was actually sat next to Camilla's sister and had a little reminis

Continuing with the royal theme, This Morning also marked HM The Queen's historic day of becoming the longest reigning monarch in British history by speaking with royal photographer Arthur Edwards as he awaited her arrival at Tweed Bank rail station, looked back at key moments of her life with royal correspondent Camilla Tominey, Alan Titchmarsh spoke of the royal grounds, two royal historian's Dr Anna Whitelock and royal biographer Sarah Gristwood discussed the legacy of the longest serving monarchs, whilst Phillip and Holly also paid a visit to some royal superfans throughout the show.
