Amazon Announces New Fulfillment Center in Southern Nevada
Amazon currently employs more than 3,000 people in Nevada; new facility will employ more than 1,000 associates
Between 2011 and 2016, Amazon investment added an additional $50 million to state economy
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 4, 2018-- Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced plans to open in North Las Vegas its fourth Nevada facility supporting customer fulfillment, creating more than 1,000 full-time jobs with benefits starting on day one. Amazon currently employs more than 3,000 full-time associates at its three existing Nevada facilities in North Las Vegas and Reno.

Amazon has invested millions of dollars into its local fulfillment center infrastructure and through compensation to thousands of employees in the state. Amazons investments in Nevada contributed an additional $50 million into Nevada's economy from 2011 through 2016, and using methodology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Amazon estimates its investments in the state have created an additional 1,300 indirect jobs on top of the companys direct hires.
This is good news for our state and for North Las Vegas, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval said. With the creation of a new 800,000 square-foot fulfillment center, Amazon will help create an additional 1,000 jobs in Nevada. Amazon has been a partner with Nevada in helping to grow our economy, and I am pleased that they will continue to be a partner with us into the future.
Amazon employees at the more than 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, household items and toys.
The rapidly expanding presence of Amazon in North Las Vegas speaks to the relationship the City has cultivated with the company and the ease and speed of doing business in North Las Vegas, efforts that are paying off in dividends by creating thousands of jobs for our hardworking residents and growing our City's tax base, North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee said. This first-of-its-kind facility for Nevada highlights the innovation and technology that North Las Vegas has come to be known for, and we wish Amazon ongoing success as our organizations continue to grow together.
Full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive hourly wages and a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance, 401(k) and company stock awards starting on day one. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.
The dedication and commitment from Clark County and the City of North Las Vegas were instrumental in making this effort possible, said Keith Earnest, executive vice president at VanTrust.
Amazon also offers full-time employees innovative programs like Career Choice, where the company will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Since the program's launch, over 12,000 employees have pursued degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few.
